Job description

Lead Cabling TechnicianLocation

Travel required as needed (company vehicle or air travel provided)

Position Summary

The Lead Cabling Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, certification, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems, including CAT5e, CAT6, and single-mode/multi-mode fiber optic cable. This role works closely with Project Managers, customers, estimators, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in low-voltage telecommunications infrastructure, structured cabling installations, fiber terminations, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with customers to review project scope, requirements, and task assignments.
  • Install, pull, support, terminate, test, and label CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Install and support innerduct and fiber pathways.
  • Build and configure IDF/MDF rooms, including:
    • Racks
    • Cabinets
    • Ladder racks
    • Cable management systems
  • Dress, organize, and label cabling according to industry standards.
  • Install grounding and bonding systems, including TMGB bars.
  • Perform drilling, core drilling, and ceiling tile modifications as required.
  • Install UL-approved firestop solutions and fire sleeves.
  • Test, certify, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling systems.
  • Install, cut, bend, and route EMT conduit and raceways as needed.
  • Create detailed as-built documentation for completed projects.
  • Provide daily project updates and documentation to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety requirements.
  • Lead by example and support team success through collaboration and professionalism.

Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as a Lead Cabling Technician or similar low-voltage technician role.
  • Hands-on experience with structured cabling installations and telecommunications systems.
  • Experience terminating and testing copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Proficiency using Fluke testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and floor plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project teams and customers.
  • Willingness to travel and work occasional weekends, holidays, and out-of-town assignments as needed.

The pay range for this position is $69.50 - $69.50/hr.
