Job Description
Position Summary:
The Mechanic at Jupiter Coil Coating is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all mechanical equipment used in the coil coating process. This includes, but is not limited to, production machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyor systems, and other essential equipment. The mechanic ensures the smooth operation of machinery to minimize downtime and maximize productivity while adhering to all safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance:
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance ensuring optimal performance and longevity of production equipment.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance tools, such as vibration analysis and infrared thermography, to detect early signs of wear and prevent failures.
  • Perform routine maintenance on building infrastructure, including lighting, HVAC systems, break areas, restrooms, and general workspace upkeep.

Equipment Troubleshooting & Repair:
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues on rollers, tension systems, coating applicators, curing ovens, and drive systems.
  • Rapidly respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.

Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems:
  • Maintain, repair, and replace hydraulic pumps, pneumatic actuators, solenoid valves, and air compressors.
  • Perform pressure tests and leak detection to ensure system integrity and performance.

Alignment & Calibration:
  • Use precision tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, and laser alignment devices to adjust and calibrate rotating machinery, ensuring accurate operation.

Welding & Fabrication:
  • Conduct MIG/TIG welding, brazing, and metal cutting to fabricate and repair machine components, structural frames, and safety guards.

Conveyor & Drive Systems:
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain belt and chain drives, gear reducers, couplings, bearings, and motor mounts.
  • Troubleshoot speed variances, misalignment, and excessive wear to ensure continuous operation.

Lubrication & Component Management:
  • Establish and execute lubrication schedules for bearings, gearboxes, and chains.
  • Monitor oil and grease conditions, replacing or replenishing as necessary to prevent wear.

Technical Documentation & CMMS Utilization:
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, document completed repairs, and utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts usage, and equipment history.

Safety & Compliance:
  • Follow OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and confined space entry protocols.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in a safe manner to prevent injuries and maintain a hazard-free environment.

Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to heat, noise, airborne particles, and moving mechanical components.
  • Frequently standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Work at heights and within confined spaces as required.
  • Overtime and emergency call-ins may be necessary.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

Qualifications: Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required, Associate's degree or technical certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an industrial mechanic, preferably in coil coating, steel processing, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with predictive maintenance tools (vibration analysis, infrared thermography).
  • Ability to interpret mechanical schematics, blueprints, and diagrams.
  • Certification in forklift operation is a plus.
