Job description

Purpose Brands, the parent company of Orangetheory, Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City, and The Bar Method, is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst II, to join its team. As part of our Analytics team, this data and analytics professional analyzes business questions, assesses the impact of business initiatives. They think critically, are mathematically savvy, know how to query data, and apply analytical methods to derive insights. They work with our data engineers to augment datasets to enable dashboarding, reports, and operationalizing insights. They partner with business stakeholders to help them make use of analysis results and deploy data-informed decision-making processes.


Purpose/Impact: (Duties & Essential Functions)

Reporting & Analytics

  • Analyze business questions and communicate findings through briefs, presentations, reports or other media. Clarify and document the questions, how findings may be used, and the analysis approach.
  • Conduct impact analyses, leading to a deeper understanding of business performance, the member experience and fitness results. Guidance on approach provided by senior analyst or BI Manager.
  • Develop simple deterministic models that project outcomes based on observed relationships, e.g., break-even projections, simple systems models.
  • Develop reports and dashboards for an entire problem space, such as website performance, lead conversion or studio portfolio analysis. These are product features that are supported and evolved over time as opposed to one-off analyses.
  • Develop internal and external documentation and training on Analytics products, such as dashboards, reports, KPI's, source data collection and transformation, data lineage and suggested use cases.
  • Develop end-user applications with low-code tools to surface actionable analytics insights, collect data or execute analytics driven workflows/actions.
  • Work with data engineers to augment existing datasets with metrics and categorizations that make it easier to answer common business and analysis questions and publish appropriate reports.
  • Build the company knowledge base of data-informed insights, documenting findings and promoting and communicating those findings through appropriate internal channels.

Performance Expectations

  • Able to develop or collaborate with a data engineer on the design (metrics, attributes) of "last mile" datasets for analyzing common questions in a specific business domain.
  • Well versed in most of the functionality our BI platforms offer and able to make efficient use of them.
  • Uses a toolkit of analytic methods, e.g., variance analysis, sampling, establishing correlations, methods of analyzing causality to answer business questions with data.
  • Able to ask questions to fully understand the context and business question asked and how answering it will make a difference. Occasionally still needs help from senior analyst or manager to frame the problem.
  • Chooses or proposes a path of inquiry that is logical and coherent.
  • Follows applicable COE (Center of Excellence) tenets and methodologies when analyzing business questions or developing reports and dashboards.
  • Makes accurate inferences from the data most of the time. Still needs some help from more senior analysts or manager to validate conclusions.
  • Presents findings in an easy-to-understand way for business stakeholders, using COE practices.
  • Shares and documents approach and findings, making sure the rest of the team has visibility and can build on them.
  • Is recognized by business stakeholders as contributing to their decision-making processes or improving their operations.
  • Regularly reviews work with more senior analysts, seeks to learn and incorporates learnings into work products.

Background and Strengths

  • BS/BA in computer science, statistics, mathematics, business administration, economics, or related field with a focus on logic and quantitative analysis.
  • 3-5 years of experience in reporting and analysis. Experience with implementing, maintaining or developing reporting in Power BI, Tableau or comparable platforms is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of statistics (sampling, statistical significance).
  • Proficiency in querying and manipulating data using SQL. Know how to use subqueries, window and analytic functions, regular expressions.
  • Experience with Python, R or similar languages.
