Job description

Major/Essential Functions
  • Conducts independent and collaborative research in biostatistics, epidemiology, or population health, including clinical studies, with active engagement in research initiatives across Texas and at the national level.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on research projects in clinical, biomedical or public health domains.
  • Teaches and mentors students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees.
  • Participates in teaching team-taught courses at the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Serves the academic community through participations in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties.
  • Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with the regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of ethical conduct in the planning, conducting, and reporting of research and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility.
  • Upholds and promotes the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience writing statistical sections for grant applications.
  • Documented record of sustained extramural research funding.
  • Experience in participating in research activities in one of the following areas: Cancer, Diabetes/Metabolism, Infectious Diseases, or Neuroscience.
  • Evidence of active interdisciplinary and/or community-based research collaborations through join publications, funded projects, or established research networks.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as Python, R, or similar tools.
  • Emerging or established regional, national, or international reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biostatistics and epidemiology, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in teaching biostatistics or related courses for graduate students and/or medical students.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative and analytical methods in biomedical or public health contexts, as evidenced by graduate-level course work, applied research or data-driven project experience.
  • Established record of peer-reviewed publications, demonstrating consistent scholarly output.
  • Experience using statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS and/or SAS) to analyze clinical, basic, or translational research data.
