Position Summary
SUN Behavioral Health is seeking a detail-oriented Payment Posting Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately posting insurance and patient payments, reconciling deposits, researching payment discrepancies, and ensuring the integrity of accounts receivable records. This position is ideal for a healthcare revenue cycle professional who enjoys working with financial data, solving payment issues, and contributing to the financial success of an organization dedicated to improving lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Review daily deposit reports and accurately post payments to patient accounts.
- Reconcile deposits, EOBs, and remittance information within established timelines.
- Download, maintain, and track expected insurance payments and remittances.
- Scan and index EOBs and supporting documentation into patient records.
- Research and resolve underpayments, overpayments, recoupments, and unidentified payments.
- Balance posted cash to bank reconciliations on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Upload physician charges and enter IOP/PHP charges accurately and timely.
- Balance census and cash reports daily to ensure financial accuracy.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to all billing and reimbursement guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve payment and account issues.
- Provide exceptional customer service and professional communication.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve payment posting and reconciliation processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years of experience in a hospital, healthcare billing, payment posting, or revenue cycle environment required.
- Knowledge of insurance payer guidelines, reimbursement methodologies, and accounts receivable processes.
- Understanding of debit and credit transactions and account reconciliation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes, EOBs, Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and commercial insurance preferred.
- Behavioral health experience preferred.
- Experience with HCS EHR systems is a plus.

Education
- Required: High school diploma or GED.

- May substitute experience for education
Experience
- Required: One to two years previous experience in a hospital setting. Knowledge of insurance payor rules and regulations, and basic medical terminology.
- Preferred: Experience with HIPPA regulated environment, processing ICD10 CPT/HCPCs, EOBs, third party payers, Medicare, managed care and private pay. Understanding of Behavioral health treatment modalities preferred. Working experience in HCS HER system a plus
