Viking Engineering and Development is looking for a dynamic Field Service Technician. This position plays a vital role in supporting our customers by installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industry-leading wood fastening machines. Our Field Service Technician oversees every new machine installation from start to finish—managing setup, calibration, and providing hands-on training for operators and maintenance teams.


In this role, you’ll take ownership of new machine installations from start to finish—handling setup, calibration, and hands-on training for operators and maintenance teams. You’ll apply your expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to ensure optimal machine performance and long-term customer success.


  • Install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain Viking equipment using electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical knowledge.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to ensure proper assembly and operation.
  • Test and calibrate equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with specifications.
  • Perform modifications and repairs; document changes accurately and communicate with engineering teams.
  • Train customer operators and maintenance staff on equipment operation, safety, and preventive maintenance.
  • Provide phone support as needed.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships by addressing issues professionally and efficiently.
  • Provide detailed and accurate service reports and expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
Requirements:

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in Field Service of Industrial equipment, or related mechanical / electrical roles.
  • High mechanical aptitude, problem-solving and troubleshooting ability especially in electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • A two-year degree in Mechatronics or Automated Machines is preferred.

Preferred Software Experience

  • Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Emerson and B&R Programming Software
  • Solidworks

Percentage of travel required

This position includes initial training at our Blaine, MN location. When not traveling to customer sites, you will also be in Blaine on occasion. This is a high-travel role, primarily domestic with occasional international assignments. Candidates should be able to obtain a U.S. passport for international travel (average travel is approximately 60–75%) and be comfortable driving for extended periods of time.


Pay and benefits

This is a full-time non-exempt position. This position regularly requires overtime hours as needed.

Starting pay for this position is $33.00 - $50.00 per hour and is highly dependent on applicable experience and skills. This is the targeted range for new hires, but over time, there's potential to earn more as you grow in the role and gain experience, skills, and tenure.
