Job description

You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEER in the NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER AIRCRAFT DIVISION SUPPORT EQUIPMENT & ALRE GROUP of NAVAIRWARCENADLKE.Qualifications:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional MECHANICAL ENGINEER. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Specialized to support either the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Steam Catapult systems, the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) and MK7 systems, or the Environmental Test Laboratory (ETL) within the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst. The incumbent will serve as a technical expert in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of these systems, both land-based and shipboard.
The positions are:
Environmental Test Laboratory Test (ETL) Engineer will be responsible for leading and executing all test engineering efforts across the ALRE/SE product lines in support of environmental requirements and testing. The ETL test engineer is responsible for all environmental test and evaluation efforts for NAWCAD as well as capability improvement of the lab to keep the current and future customer needs.
Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) and MK7 arresting gear systems. The incumbent will serve as a technical expert in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of AAG and MK7 systems, both land-based and shipboard. They will lead test engineering efforts for AAG and MK7 systems across multiple test sites (e.g., JCTS, RALS) and ship hulls and manage Integrated Management Schedules (IMS) to prioritize and track test efforts
Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Steam Catapult systems. The incumbent will serve as a technical expert in the design, development, testing, and evaluation of EMALS and Steam Catapult systems, both land-based and shipboard. They will lead test engineering efforts for EMALS and Steam Catapult systems across multiple test sites (e.g., SFD, TC13-0, TC13-2).

This a Defense Acquisition Workforce position that requires an Engineering and Technical Management, Foundational acquisition certification. The incumbent has 36 months to earn this certification. Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification in accordance with DoD Instruction 5000.66.
Acquisition Workforce (AWF) members must complete 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every two (2) years, in accordance with DoDI 5000.66. Workforce members are encouraged to earn their CLPs by completing Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Credentials. Obtaining certification within the allotted grace period and maintaining CLPs before and after achieving certification are conditions of employment. Failure to meet these requirements could result in disciplinary action and/or removal from employment.Education:Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
