Job description

Title:
Junior Computer Engineer KBR is seeking a Junior Computer Engineer to support advanced communications and cyber research efforts. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, and evaluation of systems used to analyze modern communications technologies. You will work with experienced engineers across hardware, software, networking, RF, and embedded technologies while building hands-on experience with laboratory systems and prototype capabilities. The ideal candidate has a solid engineering foundation, strong curiosity, and an interest in hands-on technical problem solving. This position requires the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies, follow technical direction, contribute to engineering tasks, and communicate findings clearly to the team. Key Responsibilities * Support the design and development of laboratory architectures for communications research, testing, and evaluation.
* Research communications technologies, hardware platforms, networking technologies, and related technical capabilities.
* Assist with integrating software-defined radios, communications hardware, embedded systems, networking equipment, and computing platforms into technical solutions.
* Contribute to system architecture development, interface definition, integration planning, and technical implementation activities.
* Support evaluation of communications protocols, waveform implementations, system interoperability, and end-to-end system performance.
* Support laboratory development activities including hardware selection, capability planning, system design, and technical trade studies under engineering guidance.
* Perform technical analysis of communications systems and supporting technologies.
* Assist with system testing, experimentation, validation, and technical assessments.
* Document technical findings and communicate results to engineering teams and government stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
* 0-3 years of relevant engineering experience.
* Experience with networking concepts, network protocols, or distributed systems.
* Familiarity with hardware/software interfaces or system integration activities.
* Ability to conduct technical research and evaluate unfamiliar technologies.
* Experience using at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, C, C++, or a similar language.
* Ability to read technical documentation and rapidly learn unfamiliar technologies.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
* Exposure to software-defined radio platforms such as Ettus USRP, BladeRF, HackRF, LimeSDR, or similar technologies.
* Exposure to laboratory, prototype, research, or test environments.
* Exposure to RF communications systems, wireless technologies, tactical communications systems, satellite communications systems, or networking technologies.
* Familiarity with communications protocols, waveform technologies, or communications architectures.
* Familiarity with digital signal processing concepts or communications theory.
* Exposure to embedded systems, FPGA-based systems, or custom hardware platforms.
* Exposure to RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, vector signal analyzers, or similar equipment. Basic Compensation: $85,000 - $110,000 (For Ohio Only) The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
