Job description

Job Summary

The University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, Clinical Practice, Innovation and Research (CliPIR) Division invites applications for one 12‑month position at the rank of tenure‑track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor with tenure. The faculty member will join a division whose mission is to promote pharmacists’ roles in high‑quality, safe, and effective medication use through interdisciplinary research and education.

The faculty member will be responsible for developing an independent research program and for teaching Pharm.D. students in the professional program related to their areas of expertise. Teaching topics may include provision and payment of health services, health communication, pharmacy management, medication safety, quality improvement, pharmacy law, ethics, and elective pharmacy courses. The faculty member will contribute to the Health Services Research in Pharmacy (HSRP) graduate program with responsibility for graduate student mentorship, teaching, and collaborative scholarship and will participate in service to the school, university, and profession.

Applicants for this position will be considered for all three professor titles. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. Level and pay are commensurate with experience.

The anticipated start date reflects the earliest possible start date. New hires may begin on a later date.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of school and/or university committees and/or professional organizations.
  • Mentor graduate students in the School’s Health Services Research in Pharmacy (HSRP) graduate program.
  • Teach in the School’s Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Teach in the School’s Health Services Research in Pharmacy (HSRP) graduate program.
  • Advance the research and scholarship mission of the School of Pharmacy by developing an independent and externally funded research program in an area of expertise, and establish collaborations leading to sustained publishable scholarly work.
Required Qualifications
  • Candidates at the assistant professor level must demonstrate potential for establishing an independent and externally funded research program and teaching at the Pharm.D. and graduate student level.
  • Candidates at the associate or full professor level must have demonstrated sustained extramural grant support, research, scholarship, and teaching proficiency that meet tenure criteria at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the School of Pharmacy.
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in public health policy, health services research, pharmaco‑epidemiology, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications

Especially desirable are candidates whose work advances the following priority research areas:

  • Large data science to guide the development and evaluation of care interventions
    • Pharmaco‑epidemiology
    • Pharmacoeconomics/health economics and outcomes research
  • Health system transformation and implementation
    • Pharmacy service evaluation and improvement
    • Medication use safety and quality
    • Patient‑centered care
    • Patient‑provider‑centered outcomes

The ideal candidate will have methodological expertise in qualitative and quantitative research designs, large datasets to study medication use effectiveness and safety in real‑world populations, biostatistics, large data science, or implementation science frameworks.

Other desirable attributes include: demonstrated mentoring of underrepresented scholars; proven ability to establish public and private sector research partnerships; experience with innovation co‑design, especially with underserved populations; a history of successful internal and external grant submissions; effective oral and written communication skills; team skills; and the ability to interact effectively with other academic departments or schools.
