The Manufacturing Manager will directly supervise technicians and cross-functional manufacturing staff, bridging frontline execution with engineering and program office requirements as the facility evolves toward a development operations model.
Responsibilities include managing day-to-day manufacturing and test operations in support of development programs, low-rate builds, and prototype fabrication; supporting development of manufacturing readiness roadmaps aligned with program maturity gates and MRL advancement; managing and maintaining facility equipment and tooling inventory, ensuring availability and readiness to support development program schedules; overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance programs for manufacturing equipment, test fixtures, and specialized tooling; coordinating equipment qualification and requalification activities as required by program or quality standards; owning the facility CAPEX budget, including identifying, justifying, and prioritizing capital investments in equipment, tooling, and infrastructure to support development operations growth; partnering with engineering and program teams to forecast tooling and equipment needs aligned with upcoming program phases and MRL advancement; ensuring facility capabilities support current and future development program designs; identifying and driving facility improvement actions; supervising, coaching, and developing production technicians through frontline leadership; delivering training materials and maintaining training records; managing business processes to measure and improve overall production performance; updating departmental procedures as required; utilizing key quality metrics and trend data to initiate improvements in overall quality performance; participating in support of product Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs); supporting Manufacturing Readiness Level Assessments (MRLAs) at supplier and in-house facilities; leading and supporting Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations; supporting Hardware Acceptance Reviews (HARs) and Pre-Ship Reviews; collaborating cross-functionally with safety, design engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain teams to drive integrated manufacturing execution; actively participating in the change management process to implement process and design improvements; supporting internal and external audits and program status reviews; and other related duties as assigned.
Required qualifications include U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level; positive, cooperative, self-motivated, and professional behavior with a strong commitment to team execution; eight (8) to twelve (12) years of related professional experience in Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a relevant discipline; proven experience leading and mentoring manufacturing or operations personnel in a DoD or aerospace environment, including development or prototype program support; experience supporting manufacturing in a development or prototype environment, including low-rate, first-article, and early-stage hardware builds; comfortable operating in a dynamic, rapidly evolving program environment with shifting priorities and ambiguous requirements; experience managing facility CAPEX planning and execution, including business case development and capital investment justification; demonstrated ability to manage workload across self and team, delegate effectively, and operate with limited supervision across multiple functional organizations; experience with non-conformance processes including root cause, corrective/preventive action, and MRB activities; experience with AS9100, AS9102, and/or ISO 9001 quality management standards; and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Skills include strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to engage and influence across engineering, quality, supply chain, and program office stakeholders; experience identifying manufacturing process improvements using quantitative and qualitative analysis; geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) experience; supplier evaluation and auditing capability; experience with program management tools and techniques to manage cost, technical, and schedule requirements in development program environments; involvement and experience in Lean Manufacturing principles applied in development or low-rate production environments; familiarity with equipment lifecycle management, maintenance planning, and tooling configuration control in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment; EVMS Control Account Manager (CAM) experience strongly preferred given development program context; strong RCCA, FAI, and MRLA skills critical in development operations where first-article and qualification builds are frequent; CQE and/or CQA certification (preferred); and Lean Certification (preferred).
