Quant Developer Internship information

What is a quant developer internship?

A Quant Developer Internship is a temporary position, usually for students or recent graduates, that offers hands-on experience in quantitative finance and software development. Interns work with quantitative analysts and developers to design, implement, and optimize financial models and trading algorithms. The role typically involves programming, data analysis, and collaborating with other teams to solve real-world financial problems. This internship is an excellent opportunity for those interested in combining finance, mathematics, and computer science in a professional setting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quant developer intern?

To thrive as a Quant Developer Intern, you need a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and programming, typically demonstrated through a degree in quantitative fields like computer science, mathematics, or engineering. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java, and experience using financial modeling tools or libraries are highly valued. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are critical soft skills for collaborating with teams and interpreting complex data. These skills and qualities are essential for developing robust quantitative models and contributing effectively to quantitative research and trading strategies.

What are some common challenges faced during a quant developer internship, and how can interns overcome them?

Quant Developer Interns often encounter challenges such as adapting to complex financial models, working with large datasets, and mastering specialized programming languages like Python or C++. To overcome these, interns should proactively seek guidance from senior team members, participate in regular code reviews, and allocate time to strengthen their understanding of both financial concepts and software development best practices. Collaboration and open communication within the team are crucial for navigating technical obstacles and successfully delivering project tasks.

What is the difference between Quant Developer Internship vs Quant Analyst Internship?

AspectQuant Developer InternshipQuant Analyst Internship
Required CredentialsTypically pursuing or holding a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fieldsUsually pursuing or holding a degree in Finance, Economics, or related fields
Work EnvironmentHands-on coding, software development, and algorithm implementationData analysis, financial modeling, and strategy development
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in hedge funds, investment banks, and trading firms focusing on technology-driven rolesCommon in asset management firms, hedge funds, and financial institutions focusing on market analysis

While both internships involve finance and quantitative skills, Quant Developer Internships focus more on programming and software development, whereas Quant Analyst Internships emphasize financial analysis and modeling. Candidates should choose based on their strengths in coding versus financial analysis.

Is it hard to get a quant developer internship?

Securing a quant developer internship is competitive due to high demand for strong programming skills in languages like Python, C++, and MATLAB, as well as a solid understanding of mathematics and finance. Candidates often need relevant coursework, prior experience, and strong problem-solving abilities to stand out in the application process.

Job Overview

Arm technology powers billions of devices, from the hardware inside the chip to the software and tools that bring it to life. Our Graduate Program brings together opportunities across engineering, AI, software and technical product development!

Graduates contribute to real products and projects, solve technical challenges and build expertise alongside experienced teams. Opportunities vary based on skills, interests and business needs.

What could you be doing?

Hardware & Chip Design โ€” Design Arm technology through digital logic, RTL, FPGA, circuits, physical design or semiconductor technology.

Testing & Validation โ€” Test and debug technology before and after silicon using simulation, automation or lab-based validation.

Systems & Performance โ€” Explore processor and system behavior through architecture, modeling, workloads and benchmarking.

AI & Machine Learning โ€” Develop AI/ML solutions or apply technologies such as LLMs and agentic AI to technical challenges.

Software & Tools โ€” Build software, automation and engineering tools using C/C++, Python, Linux, embedded systems or CI/CD.

Technical Enablement โ€” Help developers and partners succeed with Arm through coding, technical problem-solving, research and communication.

Technical Product & Programs โ€” Help shape and deliver technical products and programs through strategy, data, planning, customer insights and coordination.

Graduates apply their skills, learn new technologies and contribute to work that shapes the future of computing!

We Are Looking For Individuals Who

Hold (or are on track to hold) a university degree by the program start date. This can be a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or another relevant technical or quantitative field.

Some opportunities may require a specific degree level, area of study or technical background. Candidates with alternative degrees will also be considered if they have relevant experience.

Qualities that will help your application stand out
  • Building, testing, debugging, analyzing, modeling or improving something technical.
  • Applying programming, hardware, AI/ML, data, simulation or other engineering tools.
  • Solving technical problems and using analysis or data to make decisions.
  • Learning new technologies and adapting to unfamiliar tools or systems.
  • Collaborating with others and communicating technical ideas clearly.

Relevant experience can come from coursework, research, internships, placements, personal projects, open-source contributions or other handsโ€‘on work.

As part of the application, weโ€™ll ask about interests, experience and technologies used. Weโ€™ll review those responses alongside the resume to identify Graduate opportunities that align with each candidateโ€™s skills and interests.

We encourage early applications as we review them on a first come/first served basis.

Please note that relocation support is available for this role for domestic moves within the country. Visa sponsorship support is also available for candidates who require it.

In Return

As you develop in role, youโ€™ll have clear opportunities to progress within the salary range at Arm. With mid-year and year-end reviews, youโ€™ll have two formal progression windows each year, recognizing your growth.

You can also attend our โ€œGradโ€‘teachโ€‘Gradsโ€ workshops, guest speaker series, and social events to expand your knowledge. If youโ€™d like to get more involved, you can join the Graduate Committee to further develop your planning, networking, and coordination skills.

Youโ€™ll be invited to our Global Graduate Conference (GGC) โ€” an annual event where graduates hear from executive leaders, guest speakers, and build lasting connections.

With many of our leaders and technical specialists having originally joined as a Graduate , will you be next?

Accommodations at Arm

At Arm, we want to build extraordinary teams. If you need an adjustment or an accommodation during the recruitment process, please email accommodations@arm.com. To note, by sending us the requested information, you consent to its use by Arm to arrange for appropriate accommodations. All accommodation or adjustment requests will be treated with confidentiality, and information concerning these requests will only be disclosed as necessary to provide the accommodation. Hybrid Working at Arm

Armโ€™s approach to hybrid working is designed to create a working environment that supports both high performance and personal wellbeing. We believe in bringing people together face to face to enable us to work at pace, whilst recognizing the value of flexibility. Within that framework, we empower groups/teams to determine their own hybrid working patterns, depending on the work and the teamโ€™s needs. Details of what this means for each role will be shared upon application. In some cases, the flexibility we can offer is limited by local legal, regulatory, tax, or other considerations, and where this is the case, we will collaborate with you to find the best solution. Please talk to us to find out more about what this could look like for you.
