Quality Systems Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the VP of Quality with accountability to the VP of Manufacturing Operations, the Quality Systems Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the company's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with aerospace and manufacturing industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations. This role provides leadership for all quality system processes, including AS9100 and IATF compliance, internal auditing, corrective and preventive actions, document control, risk management, supplier quality, and customer quality support.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in aerospace manufacturing, precision machining, and quality system management, with a focus on driving operational excellence, product quality, and customer satisfaction.

Quality Management System Leadership
  • Maintain and improve the Quality Management System in accordance with:
    • AS9100
    • ISO 9001
    • IATF
    • AS17026
    • NADCAP
    • Customer-specific aerospace requirements
    • Applicable FAA and regulatory requirements
  • Manage quality system documentation, procedures, work instructions, and records.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance through audits, management reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead preparation for and support external certification audits and customer audits.

Internal Audit Management
  • Develop and maintain the annual internal audit program.
  • Conduct process, system, and product audits.
  • Ensure timely closure of audit findings and verification of effectiveness.
  • Train and mentor internal auditors.

Corrective and Preventive Action
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured methodologies such as:
    • 8D
    • 5-Why
    • Fishbone Analysis
    • PFMEA
  • Manage corrective action requests from customers, suppliers, and internal sources.
  • Verify effectiveness of implemented actions and monitor recurring issues.

Customer and Regulatory Compliance
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer quality matters.
  • Support customer audits, surveys, and quality reviews.
  • Coordinate responses to customer corrective actions and quality concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace customer flow-down requirements.

Supplier Quality Management
  • Support supplier approval and monitoring processes.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and audits as required.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and Operations to address supplier quality issues.
  • Drive supplier corrective action activities.

Continuous Improvement
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles to reduce defects and improve process performance.
  • Analyze quality metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead cross-functional quality improvement projects.
  • Support risk assessment and mitigation activities throughout the organization.

Quality Metrics and Reporting
  • Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including:
    • Internal scrap and rework rates
    • Customer returns
    • Supplier quality metrics
    • Corrective action closure performance
    • On-time audit completion
    • Cost of poor quality
  • Prepare and present quality performance reports to management.

Training and Development
  • Develop and deliver quality system training.
  • Promote a culture of quality throughout the organization.
  • Ensure employee awareness of quality objectives and customer requirements.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related technical field required. May consider 15 years directly relevant experience in Aerospace manufacturing in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ years hands-on experience in progressively challenging Quality Management roles in aerospace manufacturing, preferably holding the lead role for developing and managing QMS for multiple locations within the organization.
  • Must have direct experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, IATF, AS17026 and NADCAP.
  • Must have direct experience leading internal, customer and certification audits.
  • Experience in precision machining, gear manufacturing, or other close-tolerance metalworking environments strongly preferred.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Manager (CMQ/OE)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • AS9100 Internal or Lead Auditor Certification
  • IATF Lead Auditor Certification
