Job description

Quality Engineer-Electrical

Charlotte, NC, US

About the Company

Founded in 1998, AVL has grown into a North American leader in turnkey engineering, manufacturing, and assembly solutions and we have just opened a new manufacturing facility in Charlotte, NC. For over 25 years, we've combined in-house mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering with custom acoustical design and airflow analysis to deliver fully integrated power-generation and energy-storage systems. At AVL, our team is the foundation of our success. Comprised of dedicated engineers, skilled fabricators, and experienced project managers, we bring a collaborative, hands-on approach to every project. From initial design to final assembly, we are committed to meticulous craftsmanship and continuous improvement to ensure our customers receive reliable, high-performance products they can trust. Our mantra of "We are one team" is lived by every employee, every day.

About the Role

Quality Engineer/Analyst is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving quality systems and controls that ensure AVL products meet customer, engineering, regulatory, and internal requirements. This role serves as the link between Engineering, Production, and Suppliers, focusing on defect prevention, risk reduction, and process control rather than inspection alone. The Core purpose of the role is to prevent defects from reaching the customer by:

  • Building robust processes
  • Driving root cause correction
  • Strengthening supplier and internal quality controls
  • Using data to reduce variation and rework
Responsibilities
  • Production Quality Support
  • Provide daily quality engineering support for production
  • Investigate recurring defects, escapes, and rework trends
  • Develop corrective and preventive actions to eliminate root causes
  • Participating in production problem-solving and containment activities
  • Lead or support 8D / RCA investigations for:
  • Internal nonconformances
  • Customer complaints
  • Supplier issues
  • Verify effectiveness of corrective actions
  • Drive systemic fixes, not just short-term containment
  • Process Control & Risk Reduction
  • Develop and improve:
  • Control plans
  • Inspection plans
  • Process checks points
  • Identify high-risk areas in manufacturing and implement error-proofing where possible
  • Support PFMEA and risk-based thinking initiatives
  • Nonconformance Management
  • Review and support disposition of nonconforming material
  • Ensure proper segregation, documentation, and traceability
  • Track internal COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality) drivers such as rework and scrap
  • Documentation & QMS Support
  • Maintain and improve quality procedures and work instructions
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and AVL QMS requirements
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Data & Metrics
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends and systemic issues
  • Support reporting on:
  • Rework
  • Customer issues
  • Customer Quality Support
  • Support customer issue investigations and assist with corrective action responses
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in manufacturing quality or process engineering
  • Minimum of 3 -5 years' experience in Quality Engineering or related experience
  • Experience in Industrial Electrical quality inspection
  • Strong understanding of electro-mechanical drawings
