Overview:
The Quality Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality control programs to ensure all fabrication and construction activities meet company standards, project specifications, and applicable codes. This role plays a critical part in maintaining Sure Steel's reputation for excellence by ensuring consistent quality across all projects. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, knowledge of steel construction processes, and the ability to work closely with project teams in both shop and field environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Program Development:
Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs, procedures, and inspections for fabrication and erection activities.
Review and update quality manuals, inspection checklists, and procedures to align with project requirements, codes, and industry standards.
Inspections and Audits:
Conduct inspections of Mass timber (CLT, glulam, NLT, DLT) installation, fabrication shops, materials, and job sites to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
Perform internal audits and quality reviews, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions as needed.
Fabrication and Field Quality Oversight:
Review shop drawings, erection plans, and material documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance prior to fabrication and installation.
Coordinate with fabrication, erection crews, and project management to resolve quality issues and prevent reoccurrence.
Non-Conformance and Corrective Actions:
Identify, document, and track non-conformance issues related to fabrication, materials, or installation.
Work with project teams to develop corrective and preventive actions and verify effective resolution.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate quality records, inspection reports, material certifications, and project documentation.
Prepare quality reports and summaries for project managers, clients, and leadership as required.
Training and Continuous Improvement:
Provide guidance and training to fabrication and field personnel on quality standards, inspection procedures, and best practices.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality performance and reduce rework.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or quality certifications preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in quality control or quality management within the construction, mass timber or steel fabrication industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Mass timber, structural steel fabrication, erection processes, drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience with inspections, audits, and quality documentation in shop and field environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and material certifications.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to fabrication shops and job sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with quality management systems is a plus.
