Job description

Lumos & Associates is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Field Special Inspector to support construction projects through high-quality inspection and compliance services. The ideal candidate will hold ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Masonry, and ICC Structural Steel & Bolting certifications and bring a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and collaboration. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with engineers, contractors, and project teams to ensure construction work meets approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.

What You Will Do

As a Special Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring all construction work meets project requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating inspection activities across multiple construction sites or large-scale projects.
  • Conducting advanced inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Performing field inspections and materials testing in accordance with project plans and specifications (Soil, Concrete, Masonry, and Structural Elements).
  • Collaborating with contractors, engineers, architects, and regulatory agencies to resolve construction issues.
  • Preparing daily inspection and testing reports.
  • Interpreting construction plans, specifications, and standards to verify compliance.
  • Monitoring material quality and workmanship.
  • Issuing stop-work orders when required and verifying corrective actions.
  • Participating in project meetings and providing technical input.
  • Monitoring job-site safety and reporting hazards or deficiencies.
  • Documenting construction progress, issues, and resolutions.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

What We are Looking For

Experience

  • Minimum of four years of construction inspection experience on residential and commercial building projects or special inspection projects or a blend of education, experience, and/or relevant certifications.

  • ICC โ€“ Structural Steel & Bolting
  • Hazmat
  • NAQTC โ€“ Sampling & Density
  • Nuclear Density Gauge Operator
  • OSHA โ€“ 10

Preferred Certifications

  • ACI โ€“ Post-Installed Anchor
  • ICC โ€“ Soils Special Inspector
  • ICC โ€“ Spray-applied Fireproofing Special Inspector
  • ICC โ€“ Structural Welding
  • ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor

Other state, regional, or nationally recognized certifications that require experience and written exams will be considered.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Knowledge of IBC and ACI Codes and Standards.
  • Familiarity with inspection equipment, surveying, and materials testing.
  • Experience with roadway, bridge, residential, commercial, and utility construction.
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Professional demeanor and strong client communication skills.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to travel between job sites and offices using a company vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
