The "Manager of New Car Inspection-Mexico" will have direct oversight of new railcar production and quality to ensure railcars are meeting GATX and Customer requirements prior to delivery and will manage one direct report (New Railcar Inspector Mexico). This will require inspecting railcars through all phases of railcar production and performing final inspections prior to shipment to ensure adherence to builder quality assurance processes and GATX and Customer specifications. The manager will also need to work directly with all levels of the builder's production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve issues, improve quality and have cars meet drawing and regulatory requirements.

GATX, one of the largest railcar leasing companies in the world takes delivery of up to 3,000 new railcars per year and the "QARI" efforts are intended to maximize GATX's procured railcar quality, value, and reliability from Mexico manufacturing plants while meeting GATX and customer requirements.

This is a corporate hire, but the work will be located in Mexico. Time will be split between Monclova and Sabinas, and the incumbent will be required to be in one of these facilities 5 days a week.

El Analista y Gerente de Aseguramiento de Calidad e Inspeccion de Carros de Ferrocarril ("QARI") en Mexico es responsable de supervisar los procesos de manufactura y de aseguramiento de calidad en todas las fases de produccion de carros de ferrocarril, asi como de realizar inspecciones finales de carros tanque y carros de carga. Esta posicion tambien tendra responsabilidad de supervision sobre un Inspector de Carros de Ferrocarril en Mexico.

GATX, una de las companias de arrendamiento de carros de ferrocarril mas grandes del mundo, recibe hasta 3,000 carros nuevos al ano. Los esfuerzos del "QARI" estan enfocados en maximizar la calidad, el valor y la confiabilidad de los carros adquiridos por GATX en plantas de manufactura en Mexico, cumpliendo al mismo tiempo con los requisitos de GATX y de sus clientes.

Responsibilities
  • Manage departmental responsibilities including scheduling, forecasting, auditing expenses, managing personnel, conducting performance reviews, and establishing and maintaining departmental goals.
  • Schedule staff to cover new car production builds in Mexico from initial start-up to car completion while ensuring order requirements are met. Actively perform on-site inspections including final inspections for car acceptance prior to shipment and approve repair decisions for cars needing rework. Prioritize inspection activity so that adequate resources are applied to specific builder locations, manufacturing processes, orders and or quality issues as needed.
  • Active participation in specification and drawing review meetings, documenting and reporting quality issues and non-conformances to have cars meet standards, coordinating customer and inspector visits, leading first article or sample car inspections.
  • Lead the effort on any pertinent issues related to quality or changes that may result from meetings, specification reviews, or car inspections with the ability to collaborate with the builder's manufacturing team including production, quality assurance, and engineering to achieve results. Work closely with GATX stakeholders to identify areas of concern with proposed improvement and convey all GATX specification details and preferences to car builders. Review the builder's quality assurance documents to ensure they are accurate, up to date, and being followed so that the work and physical railcar matches the records. Work cooperatively with car builders to have the best quality rail car produced while meeting GATX and Customer requirements.
  • Observe safe work practices in a heavy industry working environment in compliance with GATX and railcar suppliers' manufacturing plant safety policies.

Responsabilidades principales:

  • Realizar inspecciones durante el proceso en todas las fases de manufactura y llevar a cabo inspecciones finales de los carros de ferrocarril antes de su envio.

  • Coordinar con inspectores de clientes y facilitar visitas, segun sea necesario.
  • Colaborar con el equipo de soporte de manufactura (incluyendo gerencia de planta y Aseguramiento de Calidad) para garantizar el cumplimiento de especificaciones y requisitos de GATX y de los clientes.
  • Auditar documentacion de Aseguramiento de Calidad para confirmar precision, vigencia y cumplimiento; verificar que el carro fisico coincida con los registros.
  • Trabajar con Manufactura y Aseguramiento de Calidad para corregir defectos y completar retrabajos requeridos.
  • Observar practicas de trabajo seguras en un entorno de industria pesada, conforme a las politicas de seguridad de GATX y de los proveedores.
  • Representar los intereses de GATX e interactuar diariamente con personal de manufactura en todos los niveles y departamentos, incluyendo Produccion y Aseguramiento de Calidad.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years' freight railcar manufacturing experience
  • Railcar inspection and quality assurance experience within a railcar manufacturing plant
  • Knowledge of railcar types and components and ensuring compliance with drawings, engineering standards, industry regulatory standards, and customer requirements
  • Weld inspection experience (certification preferred)
  • Railcar interior and exterior coatings experience (NACE certification preferred)
  • NDT performance and evaluation experience

Other (i.e., physical requirements, travel, etc. that is not covered above):

  • The "QARI" will live in Mexico and reside within commuting distance of a base railcar manufacturing location in Northern Mexico such as Monclova or Sabinas and will need to be at those locations daily.
  • Inspection - Visual evaluation and dimensional measurement, as required, including use of inspection equipment (weld gauges, mil gauges, etc.)
  • Physical activity - Walking throughout railcar manufacturing facilities indoors and outdoors within heavy industry environment including inherent tripping and fall hazards. Climbing on, under, and into railcars both during and after construction including standing or kneeling for car inspections.

This is a corporate hire but will be located in Mexico. Time will be split between Monclova and Sabinas and the incumbent will be required to be in one of the facilities 5 days a week.

Requisitos:
  • Minimo 5 anos de experiencia en manufactura de carros de ferrocarril de carga
  • Experiencia en Aseguramiento de Calidad e inspeccion dentro de una planta de manufactura
  • Conocimiento de tipos y componentes de carros de ferrocarril y de cumplimiento de estandares de ingenieria, de la industria y de clientes
  • Experiencia en inspeccion de soldadura; capacitacion AWS CWI (certificacion preferida)
  • Experiencia en recubrimientos interiores y exteriores (certificacion NACE preferida)
  • Experiencia en ensayos no destructivos (NDT)
  • Pasaporte vigente o capacidad para obtenerlo
  • Capacidad para leer, escribir y comunicarse eficazmente en espanol e ingles
  • Capacidad para interpretar especificaciones, planos y reportes de calidad
