Job description

Position Summary

Tampa Brass & Aluminum Corp. is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer II to support and improve quality systems within our precision casting and manufacturing operations. This position focuses on ensuring product quality throughout the manufacturing process, supporting root cause investigations, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have experience in casting, foundry, or metal manufacturing environments and possess a strong understanding of quality engineering principles, inspection methods, and customer quality requirements. Experience with aerospace or defense manufacturing is highly desirable.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality standards and inspection procedures for cast products.
  • Support production by investigating quality issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and customer requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Perform process capability studies and statistical analysis to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Lead internal quality audits and support customer and third-party audits.
  • Evaluate nonconforming materials and coordinate disposition activities.
  • Utilize quality tools including:
    • PFMEA
    • Control Plans
    • SPC
    • MSA
    • 8D Problem Solving
    • Root Cause Analysis
    • Fishbone Diagram
    • 5 Why Analysis
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Suppliers to improve product quality.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and participate in supplier development activities.
  • Analyze customer complaints and warranty issues while implementing corrective actions.
  • Support new product introductions through APQP and PPAP activities when required.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, NADCAP, or other applicable quality systems.
  • Generate quality metrics and reports for management review.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Materials Engineering
    • Quality Engineering
    • or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–7 years of Quality Engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience working in:
    • Foundry
    • Casting
    • Metal manufacturing
    • Aerospace manufacturing (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems including ISO 9001 and AS9100.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with aluminum, brass, bronze, steel, or other metal castings.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP requirements.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) through ASQ is a plus.
  • Experience supporting aerospace or defense customers.
Preferred NDT Certification (Highly Desired)

Candidates possessing Level II Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Certification are highly preferred.

Preferred Certifications (Aerospace Standards):

  • NAS 410 Level II
  • EN 4179 Level II
  • Equivalent ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II certification may also be considered where applicable.

Certification in one or more of the following methods is preferred:

  • Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Radiographic Testing (RT)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Visual Testing (VT)

A Level II NDT Certified individual is qualified to:

  • Set up and calibrate inspection equipment.
  • Perform inspections using certified methods.
  • Interpret and evaluate inspection results.
  • Document findings and sign off inspection reports.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable customer and industry specifications.

Note: The title Quality Engineer II refers to the company's internal job grade and does not require a Level II certification. However, candidates who hold NAS 410, EN 4179, or ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II certifications are strongly preferred due to the technical requirements of this role.
