Job description

OverviewSr. Supplier Quality Engineer will provide expertise and support to run cost efficient, effective and sustainable processes to ensure ongoing quality in accordance with international and domestic regulations and standards pertaining to supplier and purchasing controls. Collaborates with Purchasing, Quality and Engineering to improve business and supplier quality processes. Additionally, will lead internal and external CAPAs (related to supplier controls), perform evaluations for both initial supplier qualification and re-qualification processes.
Provides specialized quality engineering support for electrical commodities including printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cable and wire harness assemblies, electro-mechanical devices, sensors, power components, and related electronic systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentors and collaborates with Supplier Quality Engineers to develop and deliver the Product Acceptance Sampling Strategy, Approved Supplier List coordination, Supplier owned Control Plans for new products.
  • Determines which parts require inspection at incoming. Responsible for creation of inspection plan (frequency, dimensional/visual/functional requirements to sample, etc.) and is responsible for implementation and monitoring through the ERP system. Facilitates dock to stock receipts process as necessary.
  • Responsible for immediate action to sourced part quality issues at inspection, assembly, in the field, etc. Supports the buyers, inspectors and suppliers on containment and replacement. Leads the failure analysis efforts to determine root cause corrective and preventative actions. Validates and verifies supplier actions for effectiveness.
  • Develops part qualification plans for new parts and major revisions. Collaborates with design engineering on first article review/approval, fit/form/function testing, necessary drawing changes, design and implementation for measurement tools /fixtures.
  • Recommends necessary product drawing and specification changes to facilitate design for manufacturing and design for cost.
  • Requests, reviews and provides input on critical dimension capability studies, packaging plans, control plans, measurement systems analysis, etc. Works with suppliers to improve capability where needed.
  • Participates in supplier selection/qualification and re-qualification processes by leading supplier quality systems audits (both on and off site). Recommends process changes with suppliers as necessary that will ensure the supplier can consistently achieve stated a-dec quality requirements
  • Provides supplier support for implementation of continuous improvement programs to increase yield, eliminate waste and enable cost reduction through project management, quality tools i.e. Six Sigma, Lean, and SPC. The senior engineer will plan and drive these supplier improvements with minimal managerial guidance.
  • Investigates potential supply chain cost savings opportunities both internally and with suppliers. Supports cost savings initiatives through part/material/supplier qualification.
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks along with associated preventive actions to avoid potential supplier quality issues utilizing experience, incoming inspection history and supplier control plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred, or equivalent with five (5) years or more experience in the quality assurance field.
  • Preferred mastery of the following skills: project management, statistical analysis, root cause analysis, quality measurement, continuous improvement, and Microsoft Office programs. Familiarity with special quality software packages for both statistics and CAPA is preferred.
  • Ability to organize and lead cross-functional project teams; communicate effectively, including presentations; lead supplier audits; and apply FMEA and risk analysis in the evaluation of suppliers, parts and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills and the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
