Job description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining quality systems and processes that ensure products consistently meet customer requirements, industry standards, and company quality objectives. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customers to drive continuous improvement, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and overall manufacturing excellence.

The Quality Engineer serves as a key resource in maintaining customer satisfaction, reducing defects, improving process capability, and supporting a culture of quality throughout the organization.

The Quality Engineer will initially report to the Director of Quality.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesQuality Systems & Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, IPC, customer-specific requirements, and internal quality standards.
  • Support internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
  • Assist in maintaining quality procedures, work instructions, forms, and documentation.
  • Ensure effective implementation of Quality Management System requirements throughout the organization.
Process & Product Quality
  • Monitor manufacturing processes to identify opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Make the day to day referee call on the floor as part of your daily responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement process controls and inspection methodologies.
  • Analyze quality trends, defects, scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
  • Establish and monitor key quality metrics and performance indicators.
  • Create/Review AS9102 level FAI, PPAPs, and Production Validation activities.
  • Lead all site training requirements.
Corrective and Preventive Actions
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving techniques such as:
    • 8D
    • 5 Why Analysis
    • Fishbone Diagrams
    • Pareto Analysis
  • Develop, implement, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Track effectiveness of corrective actions and ensure timely closure.
Customer Quality Support
  • Serve as a quality liaison for customer concerns and non-conformances.
  • Investigate customer complaints and coordinate responses.
  • Participate in customer meetings regarding quality performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Support supplier qualification and performance monitoring.
  • Assist in evaluating incoming material quality issues and supplier performance trends.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on:
    • Defect reduction
    • Yield improvement
    • Process capability
    • Cost reduction
    • Customer satisfaction
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies where applicable.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on process improvements and new product introductions.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret quality data.
  • Prepare quality reports, dashboards, and management summaries.
  • Utilize statistical methods to evaluate process performance and identify trends.
  • Recommend actions based on data-driven analysis.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly, EMS, or contract manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems preferred.
  • Experience with customer audits and corrective action processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 preferred).
  • Experience with statistical analysis and quality tools.
  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with ERP, MES, or quality management software preferred.
Preferred Certifications
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) – ASQ
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Certification
  • IPC Certification (CIS or CIT)
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk manufacturing floors and production areas regularly.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
