The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a Water Quality Engineer - Engineer Staff for the Pocatello Regional Office. Join our team and make a difference!
Positions established at the staff engineer level may be underfilled at the associate or engineer-in-training levels. After successfully completing a training plan, meeting the minimum qualifications for the staff engineer level, and receiving a professional engineering license, the employee will be reclassified and compensated as a staff engineer.
Responsibilities:
• Issue wastewater reuse permits and staff analysis. This includes public comment periods and public meetings as needed.
• Review annual reports, wastewater reuse compliance submittals, and engineering plans.
• Provide technical and compliance support to permittees, conduct enforcement actions, and track compliance and enforcement activities.
• Inspect reuse facilities and septage land application sites and prepare written reports.
• Manage complaint responses as well as routine compliance inspections.
• Offer wastewater and drinking water system regulatory support (plan and specification reviews, facility inspections, facility plan reviews, Idaho Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program support, etc.).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Engineer, In Training: Salary - $30.00/hr.
Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

• Graduation from a four-year Engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) PLUS within six (6) months of hire receive certification by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer Intern;

• OR Certification as an EIT from another jurisdiction that included graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET);

• OR graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) PLUS verification that the candidate has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination.

AND Valid driver's license
Engineer, Associate: Salary - $32.50 - $34.50
Candidates must have one of the following: Certification by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer-in-Training OR certification from another jurisdiction that included graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET):
AND Two years of E.I.T. experience: reading and interpreting engineering plans, specifications, and standards on projects; interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws, when applying standard engineering principles and practices; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards.
AND Valid driver's license.
Experience: analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices; writing technical engineering reports; evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards.
Engineer Staff - Salary: $38.00 - $40.10
Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE)
OR Eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12
AND;
Experience:

• Analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices. This is typically gained by Possession of a professional engineering license. (Note: this should include 4 years of experience to obtain the PE OR 3 years of experience plus 1 year of education as a full-time engineering student at the Master's level.) Experience should show a basic knowledge of related laws. This could be gained in EIT courses; training courses relating specifically to understanding and applying such laws; completion of college level coursework and work experience where they actually had to apply laws.

• Writing technical engineering reports; This is typically gained by possession of a professional engineering license. (Note: this should include 4 years of experience to obtain the PE OR 3 years of experience plus 1 year of education as a full-time engineering student at the Master's level.)

• Evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; Typically gained by possession of a professional engineering license. (Note: this should include 4 years of experience to obtain the PE OR 3 years of experience plus 1 year of education as a full-time engineering student at the Master's level.)

• Coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards. Typically gained by two years of experience coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards. Include if you determined one of the following: if the project or facility was built according to plans; if it was being maintained according to standards; or if it was in compliance with regulations

AND Valid driver's license
Required Specialty Minimum Qualification
• Six credit hours of education related to water quality inspection procedures and Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and related laws, guidelines, and practices applicable to wastewater, public drinking water, or solid waste systems.
Required Licensure or Certifications:
You must identify your PE#, and State of issuance if other than Idaho, on your resume to be eligible for this position.

• Eyesight needs to be 20/20 (as corrected) to observe field compliance
