Job Description
Basic Purpose
Provides a wide variety of distribution engineering services and technical support encompassing service reliability, voltage levels, area capacity, and problem solving in the service area. Ensures adequate customer service by optimum, cost-effective design, and planning for system additions and modifications. Provides a direct interface with customers for engineering and power quality problems. Reviews and approves Distribution Design drawings, provide technical design estimates, and supports the technical discovery process.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures the integrity and knowledge to serve through the application of engineering expertise in the design of distribution facilities in accordance with corporate guidelines, industry standards, current construction codes, governmental and environmental regulations and customer service requirements.
  • Provides engineering support for the Distribution Design process by reviewing and approving design drawings, providing technical design estimates, and providing technical support for discovery process.
  • Investigates and resolves customers' existing power quality problems including recommendations concerning design and placement of customer equipment to reduce or eliminate power quality related problems. Provides customers with demand side management expertise.
  • Analyzes distribution system interruptions and recommends solutions to reduce or eliminate similar occurrences.
  • Conducts economic and technical distribution studies and review major distribution load additions to ensure that long and short-range distribution plans are technically feasible, consistent with corporate guidelines, and adhered to.
  • Prepares, presents and defends through all steps of review the annual distribution construction budget in accordance with corporate guidelines and timetables.
  • Coordinates the planning, final design and project schedule of major distribution construction projects to ensure the completion, budget adherence and distribution system operability.
  • Serves as the primary onsite technical liaison for Centralized Regional Distribution Planning and Standards Departments. Provides feedback to Distribution Planning regarding new resource requirements resulting from new or proposed development. Also provides Distribution Standards feedback on issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5 years industry experience as a practicing engineer and must hold a Professional Engineering license. If no PE license, must have 8+ years as a practicing engineer.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge in electrical distribution system design, planning, protection, power quality problems and solutions, operating characteristics, techniques and philosophy. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power distribution and transmission systems engineering, economics, construction practices and procedures, material specification, standards, budgeting procedures, code requirements and report writing. Demonstrated communication skills with company personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies is required. Demonstrated skills in managing multiple tasks; researching, analyzing, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Preferred Experience
PLS-CAD software experience and/or demonstrated standard materials engineering experience
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment with some field work. No special physical demands required.
