Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 0430-1300 with weekends, holidays, on-call, and other shifts as needed.
Location: Woodward/Histology
Salary/Hourly: Hourly Position
Job Summary:
Perform a variety of histology laboratory functions, which include processing of specimens, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining and slide distribution. Produce quality tissue processing and histologic specimens to the expectations of pathologists and clients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
1. Perform histology laboratory procedures with a high degree of proficiency and efficiency. Meet departmental productivity standards.
2. Operate laboratory equipment, interfaces and instruments, perform and document basic and advanced maintenance and complex calibration procedures. Serve as Key Operator for assigned instrument(s) as needed or directed.
3. Perform routine logging for Quality Control (QC)/Quality Assurance (QA) purposes. Collect and compile QA data as directed. Monitor QC for trends and take corrective action as needed or directed. Participate in QC/QA tracking.
4. Follow through on problems; develop appropriate solutions using defined guidelines.
5. Coordinate, compile and prepare QA data and perform audits as necessary.
6. Review and prepare monthly QC reports.
7. Assist with the development of procedure documents and job aids as needed.
8. Perform all troubleshooting procedures. Identify problems and develop appropriate solutions using defined guidelines.
9. Under general supervision, perform research and development tasks to include research and validation testing.
10. Actively participate in preparation for regulatory inspections, taking responsibility for section and/or department as assigned.
11. Participate in training new employees and students where appropriate:

Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION
- High School diploma or equivalent plus 60 hours of college which include 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry in any combination.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Nine (9) months of direct Histology experience (independent embedding, microtomy) OR completion of TriCore's Histology Apprentice Program.
- Qualified for enrollment in an accredited NAACLS histology training program. Requirements include High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion college level courses in biology, chemistry and math.
PREFERENCES
- Relevant ASCP or equivalent certification.
