QUALITY CONTROL SUPERVISOR

Working location: Torrington, CT USA

General Description

The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day shop floor operations while ensuring all products meet internal quality standards and customer requirements. This is a hands-on role focused on supervision, inspection, documentation, and direct involvement in quality control activities from in-process checks through final customer reports.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

The Quality Control Supervisor's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise daily shop operations and production activities
  • Assign work, set priorities, and balance workloads
  • Maintain a strong hands-on presence on the shop floor
  • Ensure work is performed according to drawings, procedures, and specifications
  • Resolve production and quality issues in real time
  • Quality Control
    • Perform and oversee in-process and final inspections
    • Verify parts and assemblies meet specifications, blueprints, and customer requirements
    • Use inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools
    • Identify defects, non-conformances, and quality trends
    • Initiate corrective actions and work with operators to prevent repeat issues
    • Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation
  • Customer Reporting & Documentation
    • Create, maintain, and review in-process inspection reports
    • Prepare final inspection and quality reports for customers
    • Ensure all reports are accurate, complete, and meet customer and contractual requirements
    • Compile inspection data, measurements, and certifications as required
    • Support customer audits, quality reviews, and documentation requests
    • Communicate quality results and concerns to management and customers as needed
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Enforce safety rules and proper PPE usage
    • Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment
    • Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
  • Train and coach operators on quality standards and inspection methods
  • Provide feedback on performance and quality expectations
  • Support onboarding and training of new employees
  • Maintain consistent communication between shop floor and management
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and workflow
  • Reduce scrap, rework, and customer returns
  • Support Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with management, engineering, and quality teams

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production shop floor environment.
  • Prior experience in quality control, product inspection, or shop floor supervision is preferred.
  • Experience working within an ISO-certified manufacturing environment is preferred.
