POSITION PURPOSE
 
As a Quality Chemist at Bayport Laboratories, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in our cosmetic products. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing chemical and physical tests, monitoring production processes, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
 
Quality Control & Testing:
  • Conduct routine and non-routine chemical, microbiological, and physical tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished cosmetic products as needed.
  • Analyze formulations to ensure consistency, stability, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
  • Perform stability testing and maintain detailed documentation of results.
Compliance & Regulatory:
  • Ensure products meet FDA, ISO, GMP, and other regulatory guidelines for cosmetics.
  • Review and validate raw material specifications and Certificates of Analysis (CoA).
  • Assist in preparing regulatory documents and reports.
Process Improvement & Troubleshooting:
  • Identify and investigate deviations, non-conformities, and quality issues.
  • Work with production and R&D teams to recommend process improvements.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of test results and quality control activities.
  • Prepare reports and communicate findings to management.
  • Ensure proper labeling, traceability, and documentation for audits.
 QUALIFICATIONS
 
·        Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
·        Proven experience as a Quality Chemist or in a similar quality control role, preferably in the cosmetic industry.
·        Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
·        Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and testing.
·        Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address quality issues.
·        Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
·        Proficiency in using quality control equipment and software.
·        Flexibility to respond to quality control needs outside regular hours.
 
Education/Certification:
 
·        Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.            
                                    
Required Knowledge:
  • Experience in inspections and quality systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Possess leadership skills and ability to be led in a manner that is healthy to our positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Emphasizes personal and professional growth and keeps knowledge and skills current.
  • Must rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 
Experience Required:
  • 2+ years of experience in quality control or analytical chemistry, preferably in the cosmetic, personal care, or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP, FDA, and ISO regulations.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment such as pH meters, viscometers, spectrophotometers, and HPLC.
