Quality Control (QC) Manager – Pipe Fabrication Facility (CWI)
Location: Woods Cross, Utah
Work Type: On-Site

Certification: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Required


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quality Control (QC) Manager to lead and manage the quality assurance and quality control program within a pipe fabrication facility.

The QC Manager will ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, API, and customer specifications while overseeing welding procedures, inspections, NDE coordination, hydrostatic testing, material traceability, coating quality, and quality documentation.

This position will provide technical leadership to QC personnel and work closely with Production, Engineering, and Project Management to ensure fabricated pipe products meet quality, code, and customer requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Quality Management

  • Lead and manage the facility's overall Quality Control Program.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, API, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), SDRs, hold/witness points, and quality records.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Welding & Fabrication

  • Manage welding procedures, qualifications, and welder continuity in accordance with ASME Section IX.
  • Review and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation.
  • Supervise in-process and final inspections of fabricated pipe spools.
  • Read and interpret isometric and fabrication drawings.

NDE & Testing

  • Coordinate and review NDE activities, including:
    • RT – Radiographic Testing
    • UT – Ultrasonic Testing
    • PT – Liquid Penetrant Testing
    • MT – Magnetic Particle Testing
  • Oversee hydrostatic testing, documentation, and acceptance criteria.

Material Traceability

  • Perform/oversee material receiving inspections.
  • Manage MTR reconciliation.
  • Ensure complete heat and lot traceability throughout fabrication.

Coating Quality

  • Manage coating inspection activities, including:
    • Surface preparation
    • Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurements
    • Holiday testing
    • Cure verification
  • Ensure compliance with applicable SSPC/NACE/AMPP requirements.

Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

  • Lead Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Conduct root-cause investigations.
  • Develop and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Track quality issues through resolution.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop QC Inspectors.
  • Maintain employee certification and qualification records.
  • Provide technical guidance on welding and fabrication quality requirements.

Audits & Documentation

  • Represent the company during customer audits and inspections.
  • Prepare and deliver complete turnover documentation packages.
  • Ensure quality records are accurate, complete, and compliant.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Production, Engineering, and Project Management to achieve quality and delivery objectives.
  • Support project requirements while maintaining code and customer compliance.


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of QA/QC experience in welding and pipe fabrication.
  • Strong shop pipe fabrication experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • ASME Section I
    • ASME Section V
    • ASME Section VIII
    • ASME B31.1
    • ASME B31.3
    • ASME B31.8
    • API 1104
    • ASME Section IX
  • Practical welding inspection experience.
  • Strong experience with WPS, PQR, and WPQ.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
    • Expired CWI certification may be accepted if renewed upon employment.
  • Ability to read and interpret isometric and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience managing ITPs, SDRs, quality records, and customer documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.


Preferred Qualifications

  • NACE / AMPP Coating Inspector Certification.
  • Experience with industrial coating quality programs.
  • Knowledge of SSPC/NACE/AMPP standards.
