Job description

Staff Quality Engineer
Hypertherm Associates is seeking a dynamic and experienced Staff Quality Engineer to join our team in Lebanon, NH.
In this role, you will lead quality management activities that support the team's business goals. You will handle quality-related functions for the system side of Light Industrial Business (LIB), including new product development support, oversight of the system verification process, and management of supply chain non-conformances for incoming material. Key responsibilities also include Engineering Change management (ECM), Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) management, driving quality standards for monitoring and controlling Light Industrial Systems (LIS) products, and serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and mentor for technicians.
As a Staff Quality Engineer, you will bring understand of and experience with:
  • Quality systems and continuous improvement: Apply advanced quality management, planning, and quantitative tools to improve processes and outcomes. Lead Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives at the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt level.
  • Performance monitoring and corrective action: Ensure internal processes meet quality metric targets, identify performance trends, and lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning. Use the CAPA system to address internal, supplier, and customer quality issues through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Audits and quality governance: Participate in external audits and QST meetings to support quality compliance and operational alignment.
  • Customer and business alignment: Proactively identify internal and external customer needs and incorporate business and operating context into the design and improvement of quality practices.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Guide engineering partners across manufacturing process engineering, design, reliability, and regulatory functions on quality-related activities, and advocate for advanced quality planning.

More about you:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • 7+ years of quality experience in a high-technology industry, preferably in an electro-mechanical product development, manufacturing, and test environment, particularly in industrial manufacturing/assembly and/or precision machining industries
  • Supplier Quality Management methodologies (APQP, PPAP, SCAR)
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) stage-gate processes
  • Proficient in problem solving techniques/tools (root cause analysis/corrective action, 8D) and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma/DMAIC, Kaizen)
  • Knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with Statistical/Quality Tools (DOE, SPC, fault tree analysis, FMEA, auditing, cost of poor quality, control plan, safe launch)
  • Proficient in data analysis and metric development tools like Power Business Intelligence (Power BI)
  • Knowledge of Quality Management System standards (ISO9001)
  • Ability to influence and build buy-in to product/process changes and the investment of resources.

Preferred experience that differentiates you:
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certifications
