Job description

Responsible for supervising the Quality program and QC employees in a manufacturing environment. This position plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures and recommends improvements in quality control methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

AWIP is an innovator in the design, construction, and advancement of insulated metal panels and is strategically positioned to meet the growing energy, environmental and economic challenges facing the North American building industry. AWIP provides its customers with a broad line of insulated wall and roof panels and a full range of complementary trims, accessories, and engineering services. 

Essential Functions 

  • Assists to develop standards or operating procedures for inspection, testing and evaluation as well as formulates and maintain quality assurance objectives to maximize product reliability. 
  • Works closely with internal departments to resolve in-house and supplier quality problems. Investigates root cause of field quality issues, recommends and implements effective corrective action as required. 
  • Maintains and manages production and quality records for evaluation and traceability. 
  • Troubleshoots production and quality issues on production floor and provides technical assistance in addition to identifying and implementing process improvements. 
  • Leads external facility audits to ensure facility and procedures are in compliance with third-party inspections. 
  • Assists QC Technician on production line as necessary. 
  • Assists Divisional Quality Manager with assigned duties as necessary. 
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment. 
  • Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Makes employment recommendations to the Plant Manager and Divisional Quality Manager. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution. 
  • Accomplish QC staff results by communicating job expectations: planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and disciplining employees. 
  • Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost and morale to achieve positive results in all responsible areas. Work to continuously improve in all areas. 
  • Manage departmental performance measures to include employee training and provide regular progress reports to the Plant Manager. 
  • Work with Production to ensure only products that meet the AWIP quality standards leave the plant.
  • Enforce quality controls and procedures are performed correctly, timely and documented completely. 
  • Completes training by supervisor. 
  • Complies with all safety and company policies and procedures. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process means and methods, and materials, their characteristics, installation procedures, and tolerances. 
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills are required. 
  • Proven leadership qualities and skills with the desire to teach and mentor staff. 
  • Attention to detail and commitment to managing problems through resolution. 
  • Troubleshooting. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Must work well in a fast-paced environment with dynamic requirements and priorities. 
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and computer applications. 

Education and Experience 

  • 5+ years of Quality Control Experience  
  • Minimum of five years' experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience and manufacturing experience. 
  • 1-2 years' experience managing a team. 
  • Require QA/QC certification depending on a specific project.   
  • Must be able to use tools, equipment, machinery, etc. 
  • Must have good mathematics skills, the ability to accurately use a tape measure, and be knowledgeable in both US and metric measurement systems. 
  • Must be able to effectively use a computer and have intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and email and basic proficiency in the rest of MS Office. 
  • Ability to take detailed clear photographs documenting quality. 
  • The POSITION is a member of the AWIP Compliance Team. The Compliance Team is responsible for the following: 
  • Responsible for Product Compliance and maintaining compliance systems to ISO 37301 standard.   
  • Collaboratively review change requests, gather monthly reporting information, prepare for audits, deal with NCR's, and identify areas of concern in relation to compliance.   
  • Maintain compliance with regulations and third-party approvals.  
  • Create and maintain the Product Compliance Register (PCR).  
  • Monitor product performance.  
  • Ensure the different functional departments are prepared for audits. 
  • Aid the different functional departments in resolving non-conformances.  
  • Ensure no unsubstantiated claims are being made on the Company's products. 

Physical Requirements  

  • Ability to work 8 hours per day with ability to work overtime and weekends as needed (up to 12 hours per day as necessary for production volume). 
  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment with extreme temperatures and some outdoor exposure is possible. 
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must have visual acuity, discernment of color and texture, and finger dexterity. 
  • Ability to read, write, type, and verbally communicate effectively in English. 
  • Ability to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods. Must be able to bend, lift, twist, reach, grasp, and other physical movements. 
  • Must be reliable and dependable. 
  • 5%-7% travel

Working Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
