Thompson Pipe Group is currently looking for a Quality Assurance Technician II

Teaming with production and operations, the Quality Assurance Technician II will work with the Quality department team to jointly assure the highest level of quality in all Thompson Pipe Group – Pressure products. The position will collaborate with various departments including engineering and project management on matters specific to product quality.

Responsibilities:

Quality Requirements

• Study and understand the TPG quality manual and repair procedures.

• Study and understand the various codes, specifications, drawings, and procedures used in the daily operations of the department.

Testing

• Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and laboratory equipment used in the daily operations of the department.

• Collect, prepare, process, and report material samples to be tested including but not limited to production weld specimens, concrete specimens, and cement mortar lining.

• Proctor qualification testing of welders and welding operators and complete test records and applicable logs.

Inspection

• Proficient in the use of tools used in inspection processes and procedures including but not limited to micrometers, calipers and related gauges, holiday testing equipment, and various thickness gauges.

• Execute, evaluate, and report inspections of pieces, components, and parts produced by the BLE, SPP, and Fittings departments, as well as by qualified vendors. In-process and final inspections including but are not limited to coating, concrete, dimensional, lining, loading, and welding-related types & methodologies.

Examination

• Conduct, evaluate, and report nondestructive examination/testing (NDE/NDT) of pieces, components, and parts produced by the BLE, SPP, and Fittings departments, as well as by qualified vendors.

• Interface with inspection/examination vendors and oversee with their work.

Audits

• Independently conduct internal audits as assigned by Quality management.

Training

• As assigned by Quality management, conduct training of lesser-experienced personnel.

Documentation

• Complete & maintain QA inspection & test reports and records.

• Complete & maintain calibration, certification, and laboratory reports and records.

• Review, status, and close-out production records and quality control reports.

• Prepare and complete nonconformance reports and nonconforming product logs.

Professional Development and Growth

• Maintain on-the-job (OJT) training records.

• Maintain current certifications and obtain new (or higher level) certifications in various applicable industry programs including but not limited to ACI, AWS, NACE/SPCC, and NDE/NDT.

Perform other duties as may be assigned by Quality supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a QA, QC, or production role in a similar or related industry.

• Experienced in one of the following technologies: concrete, civil, coatings, welding, and NDE/NDT technologies.

• Qualified by experience and training (classroom, OJT), previous certification or current certification as trainee or Level I/equivalent in any one or more areas of technical expertise: ACI Field Test Technician; NDE/NDT MT, PT, RT, UT, VT (ASNT snt-tc-1a or NAS 410); NACE/ SPCC Coating Inspector; or API 510, 570, 577, or similar.

• Qualified by experience and training (classroom, OJT), previous certification or current certification as Level II/equivalent in any one or more areas of technical expertise: ACI Field Test Technician; AWS CWI (preferable) or CAWI; NDE/NDT MT, PT, RT, UT, VT (ASNT snt-tc-1a or NAS 410); NACE/ SPCC Coating Inspector; or API 510, 570, 577, or similar.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

• Trade school diploma or certificate in related technology (concrete, civil, coatings, welding, and NDE/NDT).

• STEM-related associate’s or bachelor’s degree.

• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of applications, especially MS Excel.

• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
