Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Level 1A QC-QA Tech position will primarily be responsible for hot mix quality control. The position includes roadway testing duties to ensure HMA being produced and placed meets or exceeds specification. Other duties include, but are not limited to; aggregate gradations, hot mix formulations, tracking test results, generating reports, and communicating results with the quality control team and supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Use accepted methods to inspect, sample and test hot mix or other materials for the purpose of quality control
  • Provide support to QC Supervisor with inspections and setting up testing equipment
  • Examine contract drawings and specifications
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices, and rectifies job site hazards immediately
  • Complete daily work logs as well as maintain a production record to identify the performance of the field results and the specifications of the mix produced
  • Sample and test mixtures for compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance
  • Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure hot mix meet or exceed requirements of the appropriate agency or customer
  • Prepare and record accurate information
  • Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned
  • Maintain clean, organized job sites and equipment
  • Lift, carry and hold materials, tools, and supplies
  • Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company's safety culture
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent Work Experience
  • 2-5 years' experience with hot mix operations, dirt, and base
  • Certification Level 1A to test hot mix from TXAPA is required

SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge and experience in heavy construction industry and Heavy Civil Highway Industry
  • Proficient knowledge in construction industry standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & Outlook)
  • Ability to read asphalt paving plans, drawings, and sketches
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments - results oriented
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Ability to operate job related tools
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
