Department Summary

The Department of Electrical Engineering offers Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees, and is home to over 400 undergraduate and graduate students. Our faculty members are engaged in cutting-edge research across multiple fields of electrical engineering. Position Overview

This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising the student instructional labs in the Department of Electrical Engineering and serving as the liaison with the college IT Staff to maintain appropriate software licenses for student instructional needs. Job duties include the training of student workers and teaching assistants, conducting complex tests and experiments for demonstration purposes, coordinating repairs with vendors, research to identify appropriate instructional supplies and making recommendations for equipment and vendors, preparing and maintaining inventories of supplies for labs and equipment, oversight and accountability to the laboratory spending budget, and maintaining control of lab property.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in related field and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of equipment and instrumentation appropriate to the nature of the lab and/or the discipline, and of supplies including operation, setup, storage, and maintenance. Working knowledge of instructional applications related to the laboratory and/or the discipline. Ability to make effective presentations of experiments or software, and provide instruction in laboratory techniques, use of equipment, use of software, procedures, and safety rules. Ability to supervise work performed by others.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of relevant experience in instructional lab supervision or a similar role.
Working knowledge of equipment and instrumentation appropriate to the nature of the lab and discipline.
Ability to make effective presentations of experiments or software and provide instruction in laboratory techniques.
Ability to supervise work performed by others and ensure safety and security precautions are followed.

Job Duties

  • Maintains the Instructional labs with consistent student availability and access to operational equipment. 
  • Responsible for the training, preparation, and demonstration of scientific procedures, experiments, use of equipment and software to students and Teaching Assistants, as requested by faculty department chair and or lab committee. 
  • Maintain all Instructional Laboratories in the Department of Electrical Engineering, ensuring a high level of safety and security for students. 
  • The organization and monitoring of inventory of Lab supplies, ordering parts and supplies for various project courses and projects and making them available for Undergraduate and Graduate students. 
  • Adheres to the budget directly related to the instructional labs and is accountable to that budget when purchasing supplies for instructional purposes. 
  • Work with college IT staff for appropriate software licenses and other operational issues to maintain current standards for Instructional use. 
  • Planning of anticipated supplies, and cost of Instructional Laboratory maintenance. 
  • Responsible for maintaining the yearly Depreciation Schedule for the Instructional Laboratory Equipment .
