Job description

Position Title:                         Quality Inspector

Exempt Status:                      Non-Exempt

Accountable To:                     Sr. Manager Safety & Compliance

Job Summary:                        The primary objective of a Quality Inspector is to ensure products meet quality standards by inspecting and identifying any defects before reaching the customer. The Quality Inspector is also responsible for communicating any receiving and/or storage concerns to management. 

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • On a daily basis, reviews pull dates, if any short or dated product is found; product is either sent to the store or disposed, this also includes pick rack. Information is documented and a copy is provided to the Buyer, Purchasing Support, Inventory Department. Store Manager is notified if it’s applicable to the store.
  • On a daily basis, conducts inspections of products and reports mis-rotated product to Buyer, Purchasing Support, Inventory Department and Director of Food Safety, Quality and Compliance.
  • On a daily basis, inspects product quality and integrity inside the coolers and reports any issues along with images found to Buyer, Purchasing Support and Director of Food Safety, Quality and Compliance.
  • On a daily basis, organizes pick slots.
  • On a daily basis, ensures product is maintained at the proper temperature.
  • On a daily basis, ensures specialty items are shipped out in a timely manner, otherwise communicate to Buyer and Purchasing Support.
  • On a daily basis, maintains workspace clean and organized.
  • As needed, reports cooler/temperature issues to Maintenance department.
  • As needed, removes Temp Tale or Ryan recorders from trailers and provides them to the Buyer and/or Purchasing Support.
  • As needed, supports the receiving department.
  • As needed, inspects out of specification trailer temperatures: in the event a receiving load is noted to be out of temperature specification, receiver notifies the Quality inspector. Quality inspector then temps product to validate out of spec information, if temperature is found to be out of specification Quality inspector notifies Buyer for further disposition.
  • As needed, communicate potential cross contamination of product located on the racks to Director of Food Safety, Quality and Compliance.
  • As needed, supports the monthly food safety inspections.

All other duties as assigned

Required Skills / Abilities:                  

  • Basic understanding of food safety.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work under a variety of temperature conditions.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience in quality control / inspection of at least 1 year (produce preferable).
  • Ideal candidate will be well versed in the quality standards of produce items. Although, consideration will be given to candidates who have experience in the quality control or inspection food field.
