QUALIFICATIONS: Training and certification in medical laboratory science required. Knowledge of current professional standards and trends in lab practice required. Training equivalent to an associate degree (or military lab specialist course) and certification equivalent to MLT (ASCP) required. Bachelors of Science and MT Certification preferred. Must meet CLIA standards (Laboratory testing personnel for a moderate complexity lab).
ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Hearing: within normal limits with or without use of corrective hearing devices.
  • Vision: adequate to read 12-point type with or without use of corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to verbally interact with staff, clients and public.
  • Manual dexterity of hands/fingers for writing and data entry.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Standing/Walking 50% of the day.
  • Sitting 50% of the day.
  • Pushing up to 35 lbs.
  • Pulling up to 35 lbs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides general laboratory services to Indian and non-Indian patients with consultation to the medical clinic staff
  • Responsible for carrying out a diagnostic testing program providing microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology and/or parasitology services.
  • Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products.
  • Performs preventive maintenance program on all instruments.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures as well as safety practices are effectively followed.
  • Answers all questions about laboratory procedures at a level that a patient will comprehend.
  • Assures and comforts the patient while performing phlebotomy procedures.
  • Perform all preventative maintenance on all instruments in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Perform all Quality Control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products at appropriate intervals and according to lab protocol.
  • Maintains proficiency in all aspects of laboratory testing done on-site.
  • Shows proficiency in documenting all QC procedures, preventative maintenance and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the calibration of all appropriate equipment in the lab.
  • Performs all proficiency testing in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  • Able to use downtime productively.
  • Helps other team members when appropriate.
  • Tries to find other "projects" that need to be worked on.
  • Use email services and internet according to company protocol.
  • Able to carry out all Quality Improvement (QI) activities with a minimum of supervision.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of all patient and employee information. Follows departmental and company policy regarding confidentiality.
  • Able to complete assigned tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible, while maintaining the highest standards of quality care.
  • Meets patients in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Serves all Indian and non-Indian patients with dignity and respect.
  • Work independently and with a minimum of supervision.
  • Uses phone for patient services and limits personal phone calls.
  • Properly document in the electronic medical record all lab procedures, telephone calls, patient education, etc. that was performed during the patient visit.
  • Other duties as assigned.
