Job description

The QA/QC Inspector Level 1 is responsible for ensuring the quality of manufactured products, the quality of workmanship and compliance with specifications and customer requirements through Supporting Machine Shop, Receipt Inspection, and Calibration.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Ensure that the Quality Management System is carried out to achieve planned results.
  • Develop and issue NCR’s and CIP’s to appropriate suppliers and departments.
  • Follow up on issued NCR’s and CIP’s to ensure that corrective actions are taken and appropriate.
  • Administer SIT/Huber’s Calibration program, ensuring that all equipment which requires calibration is entered into Web QMS and is up to date.
  • Input QA/QC information into the Web QMS and appropriate job book locations.
  • Construct job books and verify accuracy before distributing to floor for production. • Construction of weld maps and required documentation for fabricated products.
  • Perform incoming Level 2 and Level 3 inspections of incoming materials.:
    • Conduct dimensional inspections based on the purchase order or the appropriate drawings.
    • Review MTR’s and confirm that materials are in accordance with requirements.
  • Quality control inspections of the production and the packaging process.
    • Conduct and document final inspection.
    • Record and save FAT reports to appropriate job books.
  • Provide support for shipping.
  • Perform complex visual and dimensional inspection of jobs and parts in process and to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications as well as paint specifications.
  • Make accept/reject decisions on products and suggest possible corrections to processes or equipment to prevent recurring problems.
  • Traveling and vetting of third-party suppliers to determine if supplier is qualified to meet SIT or customer specifications.
  • Traveling to third party suppliers to monitor hold points, paint inspections, to ensure product meets SIT and customer requirements.
  • Ensure finished products being shipped to customers are properly built to the specifications required.
  • Ensure materials used to build finished goods are inspected and meet Engineering specifications.
  • Interface with Management, Operations and Purchasing on discrepant materials.
  • Participate in design reviews to understand what role quality is needed in new projects.
  • Review customer PO Quality Flow downs to ensure customer requirements are understood and distributed to the appropriate SIT departments.
  • Participate in Internal Audits, External Audits as well as Management Reviews.
  • Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 and understand the implications of not complying with the quality management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent secondary education.
  • Bachelor’s degree, a plus.
  • Experience as described below may be accepted in lieu of education.
  • Must be willing to obtain certifications as noted below:
    • NDT Level II – VT, PT, MP
    • CWI – Certified Welding Inspector – AWS
    • NACE – Level 1 – NACE International Institute
    • OSHA 10-30 Hour Program

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in quality assurance/quality control.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • In-depth knowledge of quality systems processes and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow instructions, drawings or blueprints, specifications, safety signs/warnings and other job-related materials as needed.
  • Knowledge of specifications and tolerances.
  • Ability to use necessary measuring equipment.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Good analytical thinking.

  • Ability to work under pressure of schedules.

PHYSICAL AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to sit, bend, stand, and walk 8 – 12 hours per day.
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 15 lbs, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to use close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.
  • Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.
  • Occasional exposure to a production environment.
  • 10% travel required.
  • Able to pass any required drug tests.
  • Able to pass any required background inspections.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.
