As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse t eam of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, improving and maintaining Quality documents and procedures related to the production of cooling towers and cooling tower parts. The incumbent will also be involved in the ISO documentation, audits, and procedures in order to maintain the ISO certification of our facility and products. The Quality Engineer will work closely with engineering to drive quality improvement through design of products and assembly manuals. This position will support Product Development in order to ensure quality on new products. In addition, this position will help to support commercial tours and customer inspections of the manufacturing plant. The incumbent will support the quality manager on new projects and be actively involved in external audits from customers and the external ISO Quality Management System Registrar. This position will be responsible for the Olathe plant calibration system and instrumental for performing internal audits and monitoring the internal audit program. The Quality Engineer will also be responsible for evaluating production performance against key process indicators, as well as formulating corrective measures to ensure that identified issues are resolved to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Lead product quality assurance efforts, ensuring conformance to standards and specifications through testing, inspecting, and monitoring key process variables in addition to product characteristics
  • Implements changes and updates to a plant wide quality system with a focus on maintenance of the company’s ISO certification
  • Works closely with Team Leaders and Process Engineers to drive improvement in product quality
  • Assists R&D in evaluation/trials of new products and processes for safety, quality, & productivity prior to launch
  • Provides technical support while working with business teams and production associates to improve plant and equipment efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Troubleshoots and analyzes process capability. Implements actions to improve equipment quality of production
  • Actively support production work teams as required in order to meet world-class quality standards
  • Maintains plant calibration of tools and gauges. Provides training to production for proper use of gauges.
  • Performs internal audits and maintenance of the internal audit program to comply with ISO system requirements
  • Performs root cause analysis and evaluates corrective measures to prevent nonconformities.
  • Lead training activities related to quality
  • Provides feedback to production teams – issues Quality Alerts to inform production of identified errors.
  • Evaluates supplier products to ensure conformity to requirements. Assists suppliers on product related deficiencies to ensure appropriate corrective measures are initiated.
  • Provides guidance to inspection team members to ensure that products meet engineering design data.
  • Resolves any production related issues (product, process, specification, or engineering related).
  • Back-up for department management – able to make independent decisions to assist guiding the Quality team.
  • Evaluates customer complaints and initiates corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ability to work independently to implement methods and procedures for process control, improvement, testing and inspection to ensure defect free products.
  • Conceptualize, design and install sophisticated testing equipment that aids in product testing and analysis to minimize defects and failure rates.
  • Performs statistical analysis to assess control and identify process weak points for process improvements.
  • Generation and analysis of reports to determine trends in defects to initiate corrective measures.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in an ISO or AS9100 certified production environment
  • Experience hosting auditors and performing audits to comply with ISO system requirements.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Six Sigma leadership preferred; black or green belt certified
  • ASQ CQE and CQA certifications, preferred
  • SAP experience is preferred
  • Lean Manufacturing; experience implementing lean manufacturing techniques
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to coach, train and lead others
Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality or related field
  • Minimal travel (<10%) that includes visits to other facilities, vendors and training.
  • Office and manufacturing plant environment with varying degrees of noise levels and potential exposure to bad weather, excessive heat and/or excessive noise
  • Manufacturing Environment frequently require use of foot, eye and ear protection when in production areas.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing and potentially working at heights.
