JOB SUMMARY

Specialized Group Fitness Instructors are certified by a specialty organization that involves an extensive period of training for the certification process and sometimes extra fees paid by the Instructor on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis for upkeep of this certification, outside of regular CECs. The certifications and fitness classes include but are not limited to:

  • All LesMills formats
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Pilates Reformer
  • Zumba
  • Indoor Cycle/Spinning
  • TRX
  • Tai Chi
  • Qigong
  • Barre

This position is directly supervised by the Fitness Specialist and Fitness Coordinator, and will assist in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Instruct one or more of the above specialty fitness classes for various participant levels.
  • For LesMills and Zumba: Must teach the pre-choreographed programs without adding their own exercises.
  • Educate participants on proper and safe exercise form.
  • Enforce policies and procedures in group fitness activity areas. Execute risk management plan.
  • Maintain specialty fitness certification.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and equipment storage areas.

Job Requirements

  • Nationally recognized and accredited certification pertinent to class format
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:

Supervision Received:

Receives general supervision from the Fitness Specialist.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Experience:

  • Experience working with a wide array of populations and/or conditions.
  • Minimum of 6 months teaching experience.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Experience in large group presentations highly recommended
  • Ability to recognize deficiencies in class and make necessary modifications as needed
  • Proficient in teaching to the beat of the music (32-count) *
