Quality Control Shift Supervisor - Decatur, IL
This is an exempt level position.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for leading the lab team to ensure safe operations, compliance with environmental laws and conformance to customer quality standards and good laboratory practices. As outlined by the facility QC Lab Manager, this position will help manage and facilitate key functions of the QC lab. These functions include, but are not limited to, data inputs and output; sampling and testing programs; technician training and proficiency; regulatory compliance; continuous improvement; and instrument maintenance.
Primary Job Functions
  • Support the QC lab safety program and help facilitate ADM safety initiatives
  • Facilitate continuous improvement programs and efforts
  • Train, lead, and develop laboratory technicians in all aspects of in-process and finished product testing
  • Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory records and procedures, adhering to applicable food standards and regulations, as well as ADM Quality initiatives
  • Assist with facilitation of day-to-day lab operation, including ordering laboratory supplies on a monthly and as-needed basis
  • Standardize, maintain, verify and optimize QC laboratory data inputs and outputs, including chromatography review and documentation review.
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation by completing routine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Assist in review and optimization of analytical testing schedules and models for both internal and external testing
  • Assist in root-cause analyses for quality and food safety non-compliance
  • Demonstrate ability to work through situations involving product quality logically while involving the appropriate personnel as necessary
  • Leadership: provide both positive and negative feedback, sets good example for the technicians. Holding technicians accountable for their work and behavior.
  • Professionalism: professional interactions with plant and lab colleagues, able to handle someone questioning the accuracy of results
  • Responsibility: showing ownership of the lab, equipment, your work area and results
  • Initiative: willingness to take on tasks with minimal guidance from supervision (self-training on another job, creating work sheets and SOP's, etc.)
  • Teamwork: working with peers to get the job done and doing your part
  • Communication: sharing ideas on how to solve problems or make things better, clearly relaying necessary information.
  • Problem Solving: ability to systematically work through problems to determine a solution both with equipment and result
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or biology (or other relevant field) preferred
  • QA/QC experience preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Strong safety record and dedication to safety initiatives
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite desired
  • Solid understanding of statistics desired
  • Solid understanding of cGMP, cGLP, and FCC desired
  • Solid understanding of HACCP preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot standard lab equipment (HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer titrator, protein analyzer, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to both work as a team member and independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to provide mentorship and feedback
  • Desire to see continuous improvements in processes and programs
Working Conditions
  • Employees in this position working at this location are (or may be) exposed to temperature extremes, dust, and various potential chemical and food allergens due to the nature of our business and requirements of the job.

  • Domestic travel is minimal but expected.
  • This role will be assigned to the same shift as an hourly crew and is subject to change.
