Quality Assurance Engineer

BRUNT Workwear

Wilmington, MA • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 4 days ago

Job description

We're leading the way in redefining the workwear category. Our mission is to engineer better boots and apparel for our country's tradesmen and women by working directly with real workers to learn what they actually need to execute their jobs.
The BRUNT team is not only devoted to improving on the old workwear standards, but we're also creating a community that tradesmen and women can call their own. From our weekly hangouts at the BRUNT Garage, to hosting events across the country, we're all about getting boots on the ground and building something real with the BRUNT crew.
BRUNT is a fast-growing workwear brand built for the trades. As we scale our digital and operational platforms, we are committed to delivering reliable, high-quality experiences across every system our business and customers depend on. The Quality Assurance Engineer is a critical role within our lean DevOps team, responsible for ensuring the integrity and performance of BRUNT's commerce and operational technology stack.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
As the Quality Assurance Engineer, you will own the QA function at BRUNT as our sole internal QA resource. Reporting directly to the SVP of Technology, you will be responsible for building and executing test strategies that span our full platform ecosystem, from customer-facing Shopify storefronts and B2B wholesale catalogs to back-end ERP, planning, and data systems.
You will work cross-functionally across the Technology, Merchandising, Operations, and Retail teams to define testing requirements, coordinate user acceptance testing with stakeholders, and ensure that every platform release meets BRUNT's quality standards before it reaches our customers or internal users. You will also play a foundational role in shaping how QA is practiced at BRUNT, with the opportunity to implement tooling, processes, and automation infrastructure that scales with the business.
HOW YOU'LL DO IT:
TEST STRATEGY & PLANNING
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts for all platforms within the BRUNT technology stack.
  • Define QA scope and acceptance criteria in collaboration with the SVP of Technology, product owners, and cross-functional stakeholders at the start of each sprint.
  • Establish and continuously improve QA processes, standards, and documentation practices across the DevOps team.

PLATFORM & INTEGRATION TESTING
  • Execute end-to-end functional testing across BRUNT's Shopify platform, including the DTC eCommerce storefront, B2B wholesale catalog, and Retail Point of Sale environments.
  • Perform integration and interface testing across back-end platforms including NetSuite, Toolio, Vibe IQ, Centric, Celigo, and Google BigQuery to validate data accuracy, workflow integrity, and system interoperability.
  • Conduct regression testing following sprint releases, platform updates, and configuration changes to ensure existing functionality is not degraded.
  • Validate data flows and synchronization between Shopify and integrated back-end systems, identifying and documenting discrepancies or failures.

AGILE & SPRINT EXECUTION
  • Participate actively in sprint ceremonies including planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives within 2-4 week sprint cycles.
  • Manage and prioritize QA workload across concurrent sprint initiatives, ensuring testing is completed within sprint timelines.
  • Log, track, and manage defects through their full lifecycle in Jira, providing clear reproduction steps, severity classifications, and supporting documentation.

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COORDINATION
  • Partner with Merchandising, Operations, Wholesale, and Retail teams to facilitate user acceptance testing (UAT), gathering and incorporating feedback into test cycles.
  • Serve as the QA point of contact for non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into testable scenarios and communicating testing outcomes clearly.
  • Collaborate with developers and engineers to ensure defects are understood, prioritized, and resolved in a timely manner.

AUTOMATION & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
  • Evaluate, select, and implement a test automation framework suited to BRUNT's Shopify-based and integrated platform environment.
  • Develop automated regression test suites to reduce manual testing overhead over time and increase release confidence.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, reduce defect escape rates, and shorten QA cycle times.

DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING
  • Maintain organized, version-controlled test documentation within Jira and Monday.com, aligned to sprint and project milestones.
  • Produce clear QA status reports and release readiness assessments for the BRUNT Technology leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Track and report on key quality metrics including defect density, test coverage, and pass/fail rates over time.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
  • 3-5 years of QA engineering experience in an eCommerce, SaaS, or technology-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience testing Shopify or comparable eCommerce platforms, including storefront, checkout, and back-office functionality.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP, planning, or operational platform integration testing (experience with NetSuite, or similar systems is a plus).
  • Proficiency with Jira for defect tracking and test management, and familiarity with Monday.com or comparable project management tools.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with structured sprint cycles.
  • Familiarity with API testing tools such as Postman for validating system integrations and data exchange.
  • Working knowledge of Git and version-controlled development workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and the ability to identify root causes of complex, multi-system issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence testing practices across teams without direct authority.
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating as a solo QA practitioner in a lean, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium) and the ability to design and implement an automation strategy from the ground up is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with data validation and querying in Google BigQuery or similar data platforms is a plus.
  • Must be 18+ and able to reliably commute to the work location.
  • Full-time availability, including occasional evening or weekend support during major platform releases or go-live events.
  • Ability to commute to our office location 4x per week
