What is QA software testing?

QA software testing is the process of evaluating software applications to ensure they meet specified requirements and are free of defects. QA stands for Quality Assurance, which involves systematic activities to improve and ensure the quality of software throughout its development lifecycle. Testers use various methods, such as manual and automated testing, to identify bugs, verify functionalities, and validate that the product performs as expected. The goal is to deliver reliable, high-quality software to users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a QA software tester?

To thrive as a QA Software Tester, you need a solid understanding of software development processes, test case design, and bug tracking, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with testing tools like Selenium, JIRA, and knowledge of automation frameworks or ISTQB certification is highly valued. Attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help testers identify issues and collaborate with developers. These skills are crucial for ensuring software quality, reducing errors, and delivering reliable products to users.

What are some common challenges faced by QA software testing professionals and how can they overcome them?

QA Software Testing professionals often encounter challenges such as tight project deadlines, rapidly changing requirements, and ensuring comprehensive test coverage. To overcome these, it’s important to prioritize clear communication with developers and project managers, adopt agile testing methodologies, and use automation tools to manage repetitive tasks efficiently. Building a strong understanding of the application under test and staying updated with new testing technologies can also help QA testers address issues proactively and deliver high-quality results.

Qa Software Testing primarily involves executing test cases and identifying bugs within software products. QA Analysts focus on analyzing quality processes, developing testing strategies, and ensuring overall quality standards. While both roles require similar certifications and work in comparable environments, their core responsibilities differ, with Qa Software Testing being more hands-on testing and QA Analysts emphasizing process improvement and analysis.

Is QA software testing an entry-level job?

QA software testing is often considered an entry-level position that requires basic knowledge of testing processes, attention to detail, and familiarity with testing tools like Selenium or JIRA. Many roles accept candidates with little experience and provide on-the-job training, making it accessible for beginners interested in software quality assurance.

Is QA software testing still in demand?

QA software testing remains in demand as companies prioritize quality assurance to ensure software reliability and user satisfaction. Skills in automation tools like Selenium and programming languages such as Python or Java enhance employability in this field, which continues to evolve with agile development practices.

What does a QA software tester do?

A QA software tester is responsible for evaluating software applications to identify bugs, errors, and usability issues. They create and execute test plans, document defects, and ensure the software meets quality standards before release, often using testing tools and scripts. Job description

About Delta Intelligent Building Technologies (Canada) Inc. (formerly known as Delta Controls)

Delta Intelligent Building Technologies (Canada) Inc. is a leading building controls manufacturer. For over three decades, we have provided innovative building automation solutions for commercial, healthcare, education, and leisure facilities.

Job Summary

We’re building an AI-powered cloud platform that unifies and automates the lifecycle of intelligent building systems through a shared data, workflow, and programming foundation across Building Automation Systems (BAS), lighting, security, and IoT.

We are looking for an automation-first Software QA – Intermediate to ensure the reliability and quality of the platform as it scales. This is not a manual QA role - the focus is on building and maintaining automated test systems using programming, test architecture, and CI/CD integration to validate APIs, UI, services, data workflows, integrations, and AI-assisted features.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks across UI, APIs, services, data workflows, integrations, and end-to-end platform scenarios.
  • Embed automated validation into CI/CD pipelines to provide fast, reliable quality signals for development, deployment, and release decisions.
  • Develop automation-first test strategies that reduce repetitive manual validation and improve confidence in frequent platform releases.
  • Validate AI-assisted features, platform workflows, service integrations, and intelligent building use cases through reliable, maintainable automation.
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, architects, and QA team members to define testable requirements, acceptance criteria, and quality gates.
  • Build and improve test utilities, test data, mocks, fixtures, environments, and diagnostics to make automated testing scalable and debuggable.
  • Investigate test failures, identify product defects versus test instability, and continuously improve automation reliability and coverage.
  • Promote engineering practices that make the platform more testable, observable, resilient, and continuously verified.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in QA or software development
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, C#, Java, or Go.
  • Hands-on experience building automated tests for modern SaaS, cloud, web, or distributed software platforms.
  • Familiarity with test automation frameworks, CI/CD systems, API testing, service integration testing, and test data management.
  • Ability to create automation that is reliable, maintainable, debuggable, and appropriate for the risk being tested.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-native development concepts such as containers, deployment environments, feature flags, observability, and release pipelines.
  • Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts and the challenges of validating AI-assisted or non-deterministic product behavior.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across application code, test code, data, infrastructure, and environment issues.
  • Automation-first mindset, with a preference for repeatable, programmatic validation over manual checklist-driven regression testing.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with development teams and influence product design toward better testability.
  • Experience with building automation systems, IoT, smart buildings, industrial automation, digital twins, or operational technology is an asset.

Work Location: Hybrid (In-office 3 days per week, subject to change)
City: Surrey
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $70,000 - $90,000
This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.
