What you will be doing
The Sr. Manager, Produce Quality Control is responsible for leading the enterprise Produce Quality Control function across Albertsons Companies' distribution network. Reporting to the Vice President of Produce/Floral Replenishment., this leader establishes and oversees quality standards that ensure all produce received into the company's distribution centers meets or exceeds procurement specifications for freshness, quality, food safety, temperature, size, condition, and overall customer readiness.
This leader partners closely with Distribution Center leadership, Procurement, Transportation, Food Safety, Merchandising, and Produce suppliers to drive consistent quality standards across the enterprise. The Corporate Manager is accountable for developing quality control processes, ensuring consistent execution across all facilities, coaching and developing local Quality Control teams, resolving quality issues with urgency, and continuously improving produce quality to deliver exceptional customer experience.
Main responsibilities:
  • Enterprise Quality Standards: Establish, maintain, and continuously improve enterprise produce quality standards, inspection procedures, and receiving specifications across all distribution centers.
  • Receiving Quality Oversight: Ensure all produce received into Albertsons distribution facilities consistently meets procurement specifications related to freshness, appearance, temperature, maturity, sizing, condition, food safety, packaging integrity, and shelf life.
  • Quality Assurance Governance: Develop standardized quality inspection processes, scorecards, reporting, and audit routines that create consistency across every facility.
  • Enterprise Execution: Partner with distribution center leadership to ensure quality standards are consistently executed across all produce receiving operations.
  • Corrective Actions: Lead investigations into quality failures, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and work with suppliers, procurement teams, and distribution centers to resolve issues quickly.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve produce quality, reduce waste and shrink, increase shelf life, improve freshness, and enhance customer satisfaction through better quality.

We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in food science, Agriculture, Supply Chain, Business, Horticulture, Produce Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Significant progressive leadership experience within the produce industry.
  • Extensive experience overseeing produce quality assurance or quality control within large-scale distribution or supply chain environments.
  • Strong knowledge of produce commodities, grading standards, ripening characteristics, shelf life, handling requirements, and seasonal quality variations.
  • Experience leading quality programs across multiple distribution centers or geographic regions.
  • Strong understanding of produce food safety requirements including GAP, GMP, HACCP, FSMA, and cold chain management.
  • Experience partnering with growers, shippers, suppliers, procurement organizations, and distribution operations.
  • Demonstrated success developing quality teams and driving operational consistency across multiple locations.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using quality metrics to improve supplier performance and operational execution.
  • Ability to travel regularly to distribution centers and supplier locations (40-50%) of your time.
  • Ability to use industry standard quality assurance tools, proficient in computer skills/programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.
