Qa Engineer Selenium information

What does a QA engineer using Selenium do?

A QA Engineer using Selenium is responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated test scripts to ensure the quality of web applications. They use Selenium, a popular open-source automation tool, to simulate user interactions with web browsers and verify that software functions correctly. Their work helps identify bugs and issues early in the development process, improving product reliability and reducing manual testing efforts. QA Engineers also collaborate with developers and other team members to maintain and enhance test automation frameworks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a QA engineer using Selenium?

To thrive as a QA Engineer Selenium, you need a solid background in software testing methodologies, programming knowledge (such as Java or Python), and experience with automation frameworks. Familiarity with Selenium WebDriver, test management tools like JIRA, and CI/CD systems is typically required, along with ISTQB certification being a plus. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure reliable, automated testing processes that enhance software quality and streamline release cycles.

How does a QA engineer using Selenium typically collaborate with developers and other team members during the software development lifecycle?

QA Engineers using Selenium often work closely with developers, product managers, and other QA team members throughout the software development lifecycle. They participate in sprint planning meetings to understand requirements, provide feedback on testability, and design automated test scripts that align with development progress. Effective communication is essential, as QA Engineers must report bugs, suggest improvements, and ensure that automated tests are integrated into the CI/CD pipeline. This collaborative approach helps maintain high software quality and rapid release cycles.

What is the difference between Qa Engineer Selenium vs Qa Analyst?

Job description

Here at Lower, we believe homeownership is the key to building wealth, and we’re making it easier and more accessible than ever. As a mission-driven fintech, we simplify the home-buying process through cutting-edge technology and a seamless customer experience.

With tens of billions in funded home loans and top ratings on Trustpilot (4.8), Google (4.9), and Zillow (4.9), we’re a leader in the industry. But what truly sets us apart? Our people. Join us and be part of something bigger.

Job Description:

We’re looking for a QA Engineer focused on test automation to help scale quality across Lower’s products and engineering teams.

You’ll work closely with our QA & SDET team and software engineers to turn product requirements and testing strategies into reliable automated test coverage. You’ll play a critical role in building automated tests, expanding regression coverage, maintaining test suites, and helping ensure new features and releases are ready for production.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys understanding how products work, identifying where they can break, and translating those scenarios into repeatable automated tests. You’ll work across modern web applications and APIs, using automation as the primary approach while also applying exploratory and manual testing where appropriate.

You’ll partner closely with QA & SDET, Engineering, Product, and Design throughout the development lifecycle to help us ship software quickly without sacrificing quality.

Work Location: Hybrid in either Columbus, OH (preferred); Austin, TX

Work Type: Full-time W2 employment, visa sponsorship is not available for this position at this time.

What you’ll do:

Build & Execute Atomated Testing

  • Develop and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Build automated test cases using established frameworks, patterns, and quality engineering standards.
  • Translate product requirements, acceptance criteria, and user workflows into effective automated test coverage.
  • Expand and maintain regression, smoke, integration, and release-validation test suites.
  • Build and maintain automated API tests using Postman and code-based testing approaches.
  • Execute automated test suites, investigate failures, and distinguish product defects from test or environment issues.
  • Help ensure automated tests remain reliable, maintainable, and useful as our applications evolve.

Support Quality Throughout Development

  • Partner with QA, SDET, software engineers, Product, and Design to understand new features, requirements, and expected application behavior.
  • Participate in feature planning and identify testing scenarios, edge cases, and potential risks before development is complete.
  • Develop and document test plans for new features and releases.
  • Perform exploratory and manual testing when automation is not the appropriate solution.
  • Validate fixes and ensure defects are appropriately covered by regression testing.
  • Help integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.

Improve Test Coverage & Product Reliability

  • Identify gaps in automated test coverage and help prioritize opportunities for additional automation.
  • Monitor automated test results and troubleshoot flaky or unreliable tests.
  • Reproduce and document defects with clear steps and technical context for engineering teams.
  • Support investigation of production issues and help create test coverage to prevent regressions.
  • Identify application areas with recurring defects or higher quality risk.
  • Become an expert in the expected behavior of Lower’s mortgage applications and customer workflows.
  • Work with business and product stakeholders to validate critical financial calculations and mortgage workflows where accuracy is essential.

Continuous Improvement How We Test

  • Collaborate with QA, SDET, and engineering teams to improve automation patterns, testing practices, and overall test effectiveness.
  • Provide feedback on automation frameworks and tooling based on day-to-day usage.
  • Look for opportunities to replace repetitive manual testing with reliable automation.
  • Explore AI-assisted testing tools and workflows that can improve test creation, maintenance, and coverage.
  • Contribute to a culture where quality is a shared responsibility across engineering teams.
Who you are:
  • 2+ years of experience in QA Engineering, QA Automation, Software Testing, or a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience writing and maintaining automated tests for modern web applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or a similar browser automation framework.
  • Experience using JavaScript or TypeScript to write and maintain automated tests.
  • Experience testing REST APIs using Postman or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of testing fundamentals, including functional, regression, integration, smoke, and exploratory testing.
  • Ability to translate product requirements and user workflows into clear test scenarios and automated test cases.
  • Experience investigating failed automated tests and troubleshooting application, test, data, or environment issues.
  • Comfortable working closely with software engineers and understanding application behavior across frontend, backend, and API layers.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to think through edge cases and unexpected user behavior.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when documenting defects and collaborating with technical teams.

Nice to have:

  • Hands-on experience specifically with Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Experience integrating or executing automated tests through CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with database validation and SQL.
  • Experience with performance or load testing.
  • Experience with accessibility testing.
  • Experience testing complex financial calculations or transactional workflows.
  • Experience with mortgage, fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools.

What you'll get:

  • Extended benefit offerings including medical/dental/vision, parental leave, life insurance, short- and long-term disability
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • 401K with company match
  • Discount on home mortgage refinances or purchase
