Who you are: 

• Mustbe enrolled in anEngineeringco-op (or internship) program at a recognized Canadian university. 
• Have Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite. 
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly and concisely, using appropriate technical vocabulary. 
• Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license.

Description:

• Prepare and review process documentation, work instructions, and issue briefs

• Use SQL and Python to query, process, report, and work with asset management data

• Support User Acceptance Testing for new and existing applications

• Support manual and automatic data entry into enterprise applications

Asset Management, Asset Programs

Discipline: Open to all engineering disciplines | Location: Edmonton 

Description:

Data Management  

• Analyzing data quality

• Analyzing work and asset data to determine strategy (ex: increase/decrease maintenance frequency, repair vs. replace equipment, etc.)

Asset Strategy & Analytics Description:

• Review reported system deficiencies and assist in work approval

• Apply leadership / project management skills to engage stakeholders and lead on solution development process

• Assist in planning yearly transmission and distribution system capital maintenance program

Distribution Design Engineering

Discipline: Electrical, Civil Engineering | Location: Grande Prairie

Description:

• Prepare designs using AutoCAD for projects compatible with pre-engineered standards, regulations, and meeting customer requirements.

• Calculate structure loading & determine pole class and guy length requirements based on tangential and sheer loading & balancing of static forces.

• Clearance calculations of overhead facilities

• Size electrical equipment, wire, cable, and appropriate over-current protective devices

• Develop project cost and resource estimates.

• Prepare detailed material lists & ordering material.

Distribution Technical Standards & Support (DTSS)/Operations Engineering

Description:

• DTSS

  • Review, analyze and resolve material mismatch issues. 

  • Standardize new materials.

  • Create and revise DCSM prints and DEMS documents.

  • Create and maintain SKUs in Oracle.

Distribution System Planning

Discipline: Electrical Engineering | Location: Lloydminster

Description:

• Operate power system simulation software (CYME) for load flow analysis.

• Creation of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) as needed for customer new extensions and system work.

• Develops protection schemes, regulator settings, transformer sizes. 

• reviews historical load and generation data and assists in the implementation of recent technologies.

• Work with Transmission Protection and Control group to revise 25kV breaker relay settings.

• Daily support as needed to Service staff with transformer upgrades, fuse coordination, equipment upgrades and replacements, contingency studies, and outage investigations.

E-mobility & Microgrids and Safety Code

Discipline: Electrical Engineering | Location: Edmonton

Description:

• Prepare designs and drawings with MicroStation for projects compatible with pre-engineered standards, regulations, and customer requirements.

• Provide engineering and project management support of renewables, battery systems and microgrids including design, procurement, implementation, and life cycle support. 

• Assist in planning, design, site visit, vendor outreach of electric vehicle related projects, such as ATCO internal charging. 

• Markup preliminary and as-built drawing packages as required.  Coordinate drawing packages with Electrical & Instrumentation, and other Engineering teams. 

• Develop, update and maintain PowerBI and Power Automate for inspections and record keeping.

• Update the weekly project list for budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking.

Network Connectivity

Discipline: Open to all engineering disciplines | Location: Edmonton 

Description:

• Entry level network modelling/facility mapping in the Hexagon NetWorks Core suite of applications. 

• Troubleshoot and address issues within the electrically connected model in NetWorks Core.

• Participate in data integrity and cleanup projects that involve research, analysis, problem solving, and the reconciliation of data from various sources to resolve issues with the existing Utility Network Model data.

• Develop documentation for both existing and new work processes.

• Run daily validation tools as part of group QA/QC processes.

• 100% Office-based.  (We try to coordinate a field visit or two as a learning opportunity/exposure outside the group if there is interest, but the role and work in Network Connectivity is 100% office-based)

Operations Engineering, Protection & Control

Discipline: Electrical

Location: Calgary

Description:

• Review and analyze AE transmission system outages and protection system performance

• Validate appropriate protection system performance in response to outage events

• Identify action items following outage events and track these items to completion

• Assess reliability performance of transmission assets and identify action items following outage events and track these items to completion

• Gather evidence and monitor activities to support compliance to Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS)

Process Performance

Discipline: Computer Science, Computer Engineering | Location: Edmonton

Description:

• This position is responsible for supporting the Work Management team as they interact with the project and technical groups to stabilize the Work and Asset Management Program.

• Provide exposure and allow direct interactions with the Transmission and Distribution operation teams.

• Activities will include :

  • Data Analytics & Reporting

    • Build and improve Power BI dashboards, including visualizations and KPI cards.

    • Support Ad hoc Metric creation for project and analytical gaps

  • Process Improvements

    • Contribute to data cleanup initiatives and process improvement tasks.

    • Support standardization efforts for metrics production.

  • Technical Skills

    • Support of data governance principles and apply them in metric and process work.

  • In addition to these activities this role will support and possibly represent work management in collaboration efforts with other Subject Matter Experts to gather requirements for analytics.

Description:

Distribution Outage Review & Correction

• Monitor & Review distribution outages.  Confirm outage location, customer counts, duration, and cause codes are accurate.

Review and update System Operations Policy, Procedures, and Processes.

• Review System Operations policies, procedures, and processes that require review.  Update them as required.
• Support Technical Trainer with System Operations training related tasks.
• Update System Operations Sharepoint

Update Distribution Single Line Diagrams (SLDs): 

• Update pdf drawings with upcoming projects
• Adding permanent updates onto the SLDs using MicroStation.
• Add equipment into GIS
