Job description

Information Systems Laboratories, Inc. (ISL), a high-tech, employee-owned technology-development company, is seeking applicants for a Nuclear Software Intern in its Energy and Space Division, who will be based in its Idaho Falls, Idaho office. ISL's Energy and Space Division provides comprehensive support to the nuclear and space industries, including, but not limited to computer software development along the entire software lifecycle, waste management tracking, risk management, and development of regulatory structures and evaluation procedures, safety, cyber security, and analysis and assessment of complex engineering systems. ISL applies computer programs to simulate the physical behavior of commercial nuclear power plant systems during accident conditions to analyze some of the potential complex safety issues associated with commercial nuclear reactors.
The Nuclear Software Intern will interface with both the safety analysis and software development teams at ISL. Safety analysis activities include, but are not limited to, (1) utilizing the SNAP GUI; (2) building TRACE, RELAP5 and/or PARCS models; (3) executing models and analyzing results; and (4) documentation calculations. Software development activities include, but are not limited to, (1) evaluate and disposition software bugs, (2) add new software features, (3) test and debug software modifications, and (4) document software modifications and test results.
Education
This position is for a Co-Op student or student intern pursuing a B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering.

Current and valid U.S. Citizenship is required.
Desired Skills
Thermal-Hydraulics and/or neutronics expertise.
Thermal-Hydraulics and/or neutronics software development.
Thermal-Hydraulics and/or neutronic safety analysis.
Conventional LWR modeling and simulation.
Advanced reactor modeling and simulation.
Knowledgeable with NRC Codes:
  • TRACE
    • RELAP5
    • PARCS/PATHS/GenPMAXS

Programming background with expertise in:
  • Fortran-90,95,2003,2008,2018
    • C/C++
    • Java
    • Python

Familiarity with software development under an NQA-1 program.
Familiarity with assessment, regression, and unit testing.
Sound technical writing skills.
Self-driven with good communication skills.
Works well with remote teams.
