Job description

We are seeking Senior Automation Scientist to join IQVIA Laboratories at Durham, NC.

Job Summary:
Design, build, and scale laboratory automation that advances bioanalytical ligand binding testing through robotic sample handling, automated preparation, instrument integration, and workflow orchestration. In this hands-on role, you will partner with scientists and Quality to deliver reliable, traceable, and compliant automated workflows in a regulated laboratory environment.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Design and implement automation cells for liquid handling, robotic integration, plate movement, and barcode-enabled sample tracking
  • Integrate laboratory instruments with digital systems such as LIMS, ELN, scheduling tools, and data capture platforms
  • Develop control logic, scripts, and interfaces that support automated workflows, exception handling, and error recovery
  • Build and maintain monitoring capabilities for uptime, throughput, logs, dashboards, and alerts
  • Translate assay steps into robust and scalable automation protocols in partnership with laboratory scientists
  • Support validation documentation, audit readiness, and change control activities in collaboration with Quality
  • Drive continuous improvement by reducing failure modes, simplifying maintenance, and improving cycle time
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science/Engineering or related field required
  • 5+ years in laboratory operations, lab transformation, automation programs, or digital lab systems
  • Hands-on experience with lab automation platforms such as liquid handlers and robotic integration systems
  • Proficiency in scripting or programming for automation and integration using Python, C#, JavaScript, or equivalent
  • Other equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
