Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Research Assistant will assist the PI, Dr. Zed Sehyr, with managing research studies with deaf/hard-of-hearing and hearing adults focusing on neurobiology of language and reading. The student researcher will complete CITI training and assist with human participant recruitment, running behavioral and/or EEG experiments and participate in community engagement and outreach. The researcher will assist with analyses and interpretation of data, writing up methods, preparing materials for conference presentations or publications. The researcher will attend regular lab meetings in person and team meetings online and will be expected to follow lab protocols and documenting procedures. Student RAs are encouraged to participate in student research symposia or conferences or develop and lead independent research projects.
Specific duties & responsibilities may include: 1) Coordinating administrative aspects of participant recruitment and scheduling, including maintaining IRB protocol compliance. 2) Developing tasks in experimental software 3) Maintenance of confidential records. 4) Assistance during data collection, 5) Data entry and processing. 6) Managing study payment incentives to participants. 7) Preparing materials for conferences and publications. 8) Collaborating with other researchers. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Human Subjects Research Administration:
  • Coordinate administrative aspects of studies, including participant recruitment and scheduling, updating a database, maintaining IRB protocol compliance, and debriefing participants.
  • Assist with EEG data collection, including psychometric tests.
  • Assist with data entry and processing.
  • Manage participant payment incentives.
  • Prepare and present projects at meetings and local conferences.
  • Collaborate with other researchers.

Contribute as a member of the study team
  • Attend regular meetings with the PI to discuss study progress

Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Computer competency including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, R. Python
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Interest in working with large data sets.
  • Ability to think critically and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Proven ability to carry out duties in a timely manner
  • Reliable, professional, and dependable.
  • Must be enrolled as a Chapman University student.
  • Must be in good academic standing with the University.
