Python Programming Intern information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Python Programming Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Python Programming Intern, you need a foundational understanding of Python syntax, problem-solving abilities, and a basic grasp of software development principles, often evidenced by relevant coursework or personal projects. Familiarity with tools like Git, Jupyter Notebook, and frameworks such as Flask or Django is typically expected. Strong communication, eagerness to learn, and teamwork skills help interns adapt quickly and collaborate effectively. These skills and qualities are vital for successfully contributing to real-world projects, learning from mentors, and building a foundation for a software development career.

What types of projects can I expect to work on as a Python Programming Intern, and how are they typically structured?

As a Python Programming Intern, you will often be assigned to real-world projects such as data analysis scripts, web application features, or automation tools, depending on the organization's focus. These projects are usually structured with clear objectives and milestones, and you'll likely collaborate with more experienced developers through code reviews and regular check-ins. You can expect to work both independently and as part of a team, gaining exposure to professional codebases, version control systems like Git, and agile development practices. This hands-on experience is designed to help you build practical skills while contributing meaningfully to the team's goals.

What does a Python Programming Intern do?

A Python Programming Intern assists with software development tasks using the Python programming language. Typical responsibilities include writing and testing code, debugging software, collaborating with team members on projects, and learning best practices for coding and version control. Interns often work on real-world projects to gain hands-on experience and improve their programming skills. They may also participate in meetings, contribute to documentation, and support the development team in various tasks.

Job description

About Us

Salt Ai is an intelligent fabric for building complex AI workflows. It securely connects to proprietary and open data sources and runs entirely inside the customer’s infrastructure, whether in a VPC, on-prem, or sovereign cloud. No data leaves the environment. This architecture supports classification requirements, IP protection, and federal cybersecurity controls by design.

The platform is model-agnostic, so organizations are never locked into a single foundation model. Salt orchestrates multiple models into governed, auditable pipelines that integrate data, compute, and workflows in a structured and traceable way.

About the Internship Role

Salt AI builds the intelligence layer for the enterprise—unifying AI models, tools, and data through a compliance-first orchestration platform. We're hiring an intern to join our CBO & Sales Solutions team focused on financial services. You'll build and ship agentic AI workflows for investment banking, asset management, and financial advisory clients. This is a hands-on, build-first role—you'll be writing Python, orchestrating models, and deploying real workflows alongside our solutions engineering team from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design, build, and iterate on multi-agent AI workflows that automate document-heavy financial processes—deal screening, due diligence, credit memos, investment memos, and restructuring advisory.

• Write Python to integrate LLMs and orchestration tooling into Salt OS, connecting financial data sources and producing structured outputs.

• Prototype end-to-end client workflow solutions—from ingesting financial documents (10-Ks, CIMs, pitch decks) to generating actionable intelligence.

• Work directly with solutions engineers and the CBO to scope, build, and deliver prototypes against real client problems.

• Develop reusable workflow templates and technical assets that the solutions team deploys across financial services engagements.

What We Require

• Demonstrated experience building AI workflows—agent frameworks, LLM orchestration, or automation pipelines (LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar). Show us what you've shipped.

• Proficiency in Python—you write clean, functional code and are comfortable building integrations and data pipelines.

• Direct experience in investment banking, financial advisory, asset management, or a closely adjacent financial services role—internship, coursework, or project work that proves you understand how these workflows operate.

• Solid grasp of financial fundamentals: financial statements, valuation, credit analysis, deal processes, or capital markets.

• Pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, CS, Data Science, or a related field—junior or senior standing preferred.

• Strong communication skills—able to translate technical builds into clear, client-facing language.

Nice To Have

• Experience with frontier model APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) and prompt engineering for structured outputs.

• Familiarity with financial data platforms: Bloomberg, CapIQ, Pitchbook, Refinitiv.

• Exposure to AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar).

• Experience building RAG pipelines or knowledge retrieval systems over documents—directly relevant to how Salt ingests and reasons over financial documents like 10-Ks, CIMs, and credit memos.

• Experience integrating AI systems with external tools via APIs—CRMs, spreadsheets, shared drives, or workflow platforms (Zapier, Make, n8n).

• A scrappy, figure-it-out mentality—comfortable in ambiguity and willing to wear multiple hats.

Perks

Competitive compensation · Fully remote · Direct mentorship from the Executive Leadership and solutions engineering leadership.

Salt AI is committed to building a diverse, inclusive team and encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
