Job Summary:
A Process Specialist will identify and pursue opportunities for making products and processes more robust and reliable through project delivery, process control, systems implementation, and personnel development. Analyze, interpret, and compile a variety of data to complete work requests and make recommendations for changes that promote continuous improvement. Prioritize loss reduction work and implement and improve process control systems. Utilize analytical troubleshooting skills to resolve process outages resulting in improved product, machine, and people performance.
Key responsibilities:
Project delivery
  • Execute assigned projects and action items to meet goals related to safety, schedule, cost, and engineering/operational success.
  • Work with the project team to help define the scope, estimate the cost, identify the resources needed, provide a timeline, provide installation and operational support from a process perspective for product, equipment, and process changes.
  • Prepare, execute, analyze results, and prepare summary reports for phase 2 & 3 trial plans and qualification protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Train those impacted by the project and ensure changes are documented.
  • Track open items through completion.
Unplanned troubleshooting
  • Be a technical resource available for unplanned consultation, training, and aiding in the recovery/improvement of manufacturing and systems processes. Relevant systems: core forming, adhesive systems, vision systems, web handling, baggers, etc.
  • Be a point of contact for escalation of process related issues.
  • Develop and document process controls
  • Utilize appropriate tools/data to define, measure, and generate solutions to improve the capability of each process for achieving established Critical to Quality (CTQ) parameters and productivity targets.
  • Analyze quality, waste, and downtime data to set priorities for improvement of the product and process.
Optimize processes
  • Identify/lead improvements to equipment, products, materials, resources, procedures, etc.
  • Lead efforts with the Process Technicians to develop/improve standards and process controls.
  • Lead / participate in cross-functional teams in continuous and reliability improvement projects, and root cause analysis activities.
  • Personnel development
  • Develop and provide planned/structured training for others (e.g. Process Technicians) to increase overall competence and skill base.
Required Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in one of the following fields: scientific, engineering, electronics, mechanical or other similar field
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with mechanical drive systems
  • Experience in establishing and controlling process settings
  • Strong background in adhesive systems, air systems and bonding technologies
  • Basic understanding of electrical components
  • A basic knowledge of analytical troubleshooting
  • A good knowledge of manufacturing plant support equipment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (such as MS Word and Excel)
  • Demonstrated proficiency to write work instructions, create visual guides, flow charts, changeover checklists, training materials, etc.
Preferred Qualifications/Professional Experiences/Years of Experience:
  • Maintenance and or Process Experience with High Speed Converting Equipment (Consumer Health Products)
  • Green Belt (or higher) Certification in Lean Six Sigma
  • Certified Manufacturing Engineer (SME), Certified Automation Professional (ISA), and/or Manufacturing Frontline Leader (MSI) Certification
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical equipment and systems
  • Basic knowledge of facility support equipment
  • Proficiency in use of Cause & Effect Diagrams, FMEA, flowchart/process maps, process DOE, etc.
  • Knowledge of Mini Tab, Python, Matlab, Quality Window, MS Access, Visual Basic, Agilent VEE, etc. and basic statistics is desired
  • Demonstrated proficiency with project management software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software.
