Job description

About the role:

As a Materials Engineer you will support development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes such as Cr coated cladding.

You will report to the Materials and Fuel Rod Design Manager. This is a hybrid role, located in Columbia, SC. Local candidates only.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to and collaborate with other entities such as national laboratories, universities, and industry groups Bring engineering thoughtfulness to resolution of problems, requiring prior knowledge and literature review within given discipline
  • Support hands-on material testing programs in a test lab environment. Testing ranges from mechanical testing, autoclave corrosion testing, creep testing, high temperature oxidation, and materials/chemical characterization
  • Develop new capabilities and methodologies in the laboratory for materials characterization. Oversee and provide training to technician and engineering personnel.
  • Work with customers, national labs, and universities for collaborative development programs to develop advanced fuel materials
  • Analyze and provide test data for supporting new fuel materials for licensing submittals
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Chemical Engineering degree helpful
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required, with an emphasis toward nuclear materials
  • Experience with zirconium-based alloys.
  • Analytical experience using advanced characterization techniques including SEM, EDS, EBDS, WDS, XRD, XPS, FIB, and TEM.
  • Experience with computation and data analysis software (including SolidWorks, Inventor, ThermoCalc, Python, Matlab, and Excel (can perform complex functions) )

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $85,200 to $106,500 per year.
