Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (NSSS Component Analysis)
Type: Contract
Work Model: Remote
Overview
System One is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer - NSSS Component Analysis to support advanced nuclear component engineering activities for a next-generation light water reactor program.
The engineer will perform and document ASME BPVC Section III code-based stress and design evaluations for pressure-retaining components and supports, leveraging ANSYS and related CAD/analysis tools while working under strict quality assurance and regulatory requirements (including ASME NQA-1). Work may be performed remotely within the contiguous United States, with travel as needed for business requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and document stress analysis of pressure vessels, reactor internals, and primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III (NB, NG, NF).
  • Analyze components for pressure, thermal, and mechanical loadings including primary stress, secondary stress, and fatigue.
  • Utilize ANSYS finite element software and CAD tools to evaluate and optimize component designs.
  • Develop and interpret engineering design requirements and specifications for NSSS components.
  • Support multi-disciplinary teams in resolving technical challenges related to component analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the NSSS Component Analysis Group.
  • Lead or support NSSS component analysis activities, ensuring compliance with NQA-1 and NRC standards.
  • Interact with other disciplines to promote effective technical coordination and problem resolution.
  • Ensure all engineering work adheres to quality assurance regulations and regulatory standards such as 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and 10 CFR 21.

Requirements
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET-accredited institution. An advanced degree and PE license are preferred.
  • Experience: At least 8 years of full-time relevant engineering experience, with extensive ANSYS stress analysis in accordance with ASME Section III.
  • Significant experience in nuclear, power generation, or highly regulated industries.
  • Key Skills: Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, strong technical communication, project management, leadership, and mentorship abilities.
  • Familiar with: 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, ASME NQA-1 standards.
  • Additional Skills: Seismic/dynamic analysis, programming skills (e.g., ANSYS APDL, MATLAB, Python).
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810, ability to travel as needed.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to communicate clearly, learn quickly, and operate in a fast-paced technical environment.
