Python Mechanical Engineer information

What does a Python mechanical engineer do?

A Python Mechanical Engineer is a professional who combines mechanical engineering expertise with proficiency in the Python programming language. They often use Python to automate simulations, analyze engineering data, create custom computational tools, and develop scripts for design optimization. Their work can involve tasks such as automating CAD processes, running finite element analysis, or integrating hardware and software systems. This combination of skills is increasingly valuable in industries that emphasize digital engineering and automation.

How does a Python mechanical engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during product development?

Python Mechanical Engineers often work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and product managers throughout the product development cycle. Their role involves integrating Python-based automation and simulation tools with mechanical design processes, which requires clear communication and coordination to ensure compatibility and efficiency. Regular meetings, collaborative project management platforms, and shared documentation are commonly used to align goals and resolve technical challenges. This cross-disciplinary teamwork not only enhances product quality but also provides valuable opportunities for professional growth and learning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Python mechanical engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Python Mechanical Engineer, you need a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, strong programming skills in Python, and typically a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools like ANSYS or SolidWorks, as well as experience with Python libraries such as NumPy and pandas, is highly beneficial. Problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and adaptability set candidates apart in this role. These skills are essential for efficiently designing, analyzing, and automating engineering processes, leading to innovative and optimized mechanical solutions.

What is the difference between Python Mechanical Engineer vs Mechanical Design Engineer?

AspectPython Mechanical EngineerMechanical Design Engineer
Required SkillsPython programming, mechanical engineering fundamentalsMechanical design, CAD software, engineering principles
Work EnvironmentSoftware development teams, engineering labsDesign offices, manufacturing facilities
CertificationsOptional Python or software certifications, engineering licensesProfessional Engineer (PE), CAD certifications
Industry UsageAutomation, robotics, simulationProduct design, machinery, structural components

The main difference between a Python Mechanical Engineer and a Mechanical Design Engineer lies in their focus areas. Python Mechanical Engineers combine programming skills with mechanical engineering knowledge to develop automation and simulation tools, while Mechanical Design Engineers focus on creating physical product designs using CAD software. Both roles are essential in engineering projects but serve different functions within the industry.

Are Python Mechanical Engineers in demand?

Python Mechanical Engineers are in demand as companies seek professionals who can integrate Python programming with mechanical systems, automation, and data analysis. Skills in Python, CAD software, and control systems increase employability in industries like manufacturing, robotics, and engineering design.

Job description

At Redwire, we’re breaking boundaries on an astronomical scale through innovation, meaningful impact, and continuous growth. Join us to be part of a mission-driven team where diversity, flexibility, and collaboration fuel every success.
Summary
Redwire Space Missions has an opening for an Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), Test Engineer (willing to consider all Sr. Levels), located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM or Littleton, CO, who will support Engineering and Program Management with the execution of development and flight test activities.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and execution of electrical test systems to support spacecraft integration and test campaigns. You will work closely with systems engineering, avionics, software, and integration teams to deliver reliable EGSE solutions for spacecraft programs.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain EGSE hardware and software to support spacecraft integration and test.
  • Develop test system architecture including power distribution, signal conditioning, and data acquisition.
  • Implement test automation frameworks and scripts for spacecraft checkout and validation.
  • Support spacecraft and payload electrical integration, test campaigns, and anomaly resolution.
  • Design and execute hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations and interface emulators.
  • Prepare test procedures, participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and document test reports.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (systems, mechanical, software, I amp;T;) to ensure test coverage.
  • Maintain compliance with aerospace quality, safety, and configuration management standards.
Ideal Experience
  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related STEM discipline.
  • 5 or more years of experience in spacecraft electrical integration, test, or EGSE development.
  • Experience with test automation and scripting languages and software such as Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, TCL, C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with power electronics, load emulation, and power supplies.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft interfaces such as MIL-STD-1553, SpaceWire, RS-422, Ethernet, CAN, PCIe, LVDS.
  • Proficiency with electrical schematics, harness design, and test hardware integration.
  • Familiarity with test equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power/network/spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft testing in thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC, and vibration environments.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government/DoD Security Clearance.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with EGSE design and operation for space vehicles
  • Strong troubleshooting, fault isolation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading EGSE development efforts from requirements flow down to certification, including requirements derivation, design and layout, schematics capture, parts release and procurement, assembly, test, and validation.
  • Proficiency with spacecraft avionics systems, such as power, C amp;DH, communications, networking, and GNC hardware.
  • Proficiency programming and implementing LabVIEW for maximizing test automation.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Git, SVN, JIRA, Confluence, DOORS).
