Job description

The American Enterprise Instituteโ€™s Housing Center is seeking an intern to support the research of Senior Fellows Edward J. Pinto and Tobias Peter,ย along with Arthur Gailes, on domestic housing markets, mortgage lending (historical and current), and financial policy reform.

Primary responsibilities include maintaining the centerโ€™s indexesย and working with the nationโ€™s premier housing datasets; supporting research through data management, retrieval, and analysis; assisting with the editing and drafting of scholarly papers, articles, and op-eds; creating and formatting charts, tables, and presentations; and performing other general research support tasks.ย Interns will also gain exposure to the use of AI tools in a research and policy environment.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks, and comfortable working independentlyย in a fast-paced work environment. Strong Excel skills are required, along with experience in Stata or other statistical software. Candidates should also have clear and concise writing skills. Experience with data cleaning and analysis, as well as familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS, Python, R, Java, or SAS, is preferred but not required.

Applicants should be available to participate in person for 30โ€“40 hours per week. As part of the application, candidates should include standardized test scores (e.g., SAT, ACT) in their materials.

AEI internships offer a unique opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience in research, writing, business, and communications at one of the nationโ€™s leading think tanks.

Competitive candidates will generally have a GPA of 3.5 or higher from a top-ranking college or university. AEIโ€™s internship program runs for 12 weeks and all related programming will take place in-person in Washington, DC. Please see the internship program home page for updates about the program.

The fall program dates are either Tuesday, September 8, to Friday, December 4, or Tuesday, September 15, to Friday, December 11.
